Unit 11: Foundation, Concrete, and Formwork (2 Weeks)
In this unit students should be able to transfer information from a footing and foundation plan to set up lines where building will be dug and footings poured. Students will be able to help set up wall forms for walls to be poured, including use of forms, bracing, anchors, and other wall forming parts. Students will also understand the use of dampproofing, estimating of materials, and building forms for stairs.
Standard 8.1 Student will be able to identify the properties of cement.Standard 8.2 Student will be able to describe the composition of concrete.Standard 8.3 Student will be able to perform volume estimates for concrete quantity requirements.Standard 8.4 Student will be able to identify types of concrete reinforcement materials and describe their uses.Standard 8.5 Student will be able to identify various types of footings and explain their uses.Standard 8.6 Student will be able to identify the parts of various types of forms.Standard 8.8 Student will be able to erect, plumb, and brace a simple concrete form with reinforcement.Standard 27.3 Student will be able to demonstrate the correct methods for placing and consolidating concrete into forms.Standard 27.4 Student will be able to demonstrate how to use a screed to strike off and level concrete to the proper grade in a form.Standard 27.5 Student will be able to demonstrate how to use tools for placing, floating, and finishing concrete.
