Tyson and Cohen have chosen to do possum boxes for Ring Tail possums. We have decided to construct possum boxes to create homes for the endangered wildlife that are in need within our school environment. This project will increase the schools biodiversity score by one point upon successful completion.
We washed the possum box and cleaned it out with a dustpan and broom.
We are currently brainstorming a design for the box.
We brought the possum box over to the VCAFE where we were able to fix up and sand down the possum to its natural colour and our next step is to ask garry ok the tree that are appropriate to place our possum boxes.
This week we discussed with Miss G what painting ideas we could do for our possum box to make it more natural or we should leave it like it is with its natural sanded down wood. We also walked around the school to see which area would be best to put our possum boxes in which tree and which area it would be the strongest in and wouldn't break.
We decided to not paint the box and keep its natural looks we decided to sand it more and make sure the box didn't need any more improvements or fixing. After we made this decision we went to gary's office to see if we can have a meeting with him to see what area and tree we can put our possum box in.
This week we mostly did theory and waiting to see when gary can talk to us about when and where can put the possum box in the tree. We saw a ringtail possum near the vmax building so we think its a possible place to put the box in.
This week we found out we will not be putting our possum box in a tree due to the college not saying yes we can yet so therefore we have to wait until approval. When we have our walk with the school leaders our box is going to be on display on a tree then taken down when we go to show how it will look. But also we have completed our box and its ready to be put up and be home to a possum.
