For years now humanity has been dumping it’s waste into the oceans, whether it be intentional or not can this really go on? I don’t believe it should.
Every single year more than 8 million tonnes of rubbish waste is washed or dumped into waterways and oceans, filling underwater habitats with small pieces of plastic, filling the stomachs of fish and other sea life. Eventually the plastic converts to a more harmful material as it breaks down into microplastics. Currently there is more plastic than fish in our oceans, if this factor doesn’t make people aware of the state of our planet i don’t know what will.
In the UK alone, 47% of their waste eventually gets washed into the oceans, even waste from the center of the ocean has its way. Many people believe that most of the oil in the ocean is residue from past oil spills, this isn't true, as most oil is from our roads, driveways, garages, and mechanical shops.
Small, mundane tasks that you do everyday also contribute to water dumping, in a full load of washing over 700,000 microfibres are washed into the ocean. Alot of organic food that enters the oceans rot, leading to multiple parasites feasting on said food, these parasites will inevitably carry the germs to another animal.
Many different companies and groups work hard to fix these issues but are ultimately overwhelmed. At this current rate the oceans will struggle to heal.
