Here I’m going to talk about how and why deforestation is a worldwide issue and the long-term effects, the major issues I will be talking about are carbon emissions, animals losing their homes and urbanization.
Firstly I will be talking about how deforestation can make carbon emissions worse.
Some evidence to this is that the global loss of tropical forest has contributed to about 4.8 Billion tonnes of carbon which in the long run has increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere a lot.
If this is not stopped entire ecosystems will fall and oxygen purity will get to dangerous levels all over the world. This is a good example because it shows that deforestation is aiding in another major issue in the world.
Another reason deforestation is a huge problem is because it leaves animals homeless and without food which can lead to a mass extinction of many species.
The cause of this is because we have cut down approximately 27% of rainforest, 19% of open forest, 11% of woodland and 28% of Mallee forest, this has led to 55 species of wildlife and 37 plant life species to go extinct.
Many animals have and will go extinct if this is not changed and can cause other major problems in the world that can end up being irreversible.
This shows that deforestation isn’t just affecting us but that its effecting the wildlife as well which gives us more of a reason to stop deforestation.
My last issue is urbanization and one of the main causes of deforestation.
Urbanization ate into 35 million hectares of land between 1992 and 2015 which is still rising to this day. This is a big problem but we as humans have acknowledged this and are taking action as fast as possible, some proof of us acting on this are the different groups taking action like the Amazon Watch and Survival International.
Again, this is another good reason to stop deforestation.
I hope I have shown the importance of why deforestation needs to be stopped and that it can cause major environmental issues that can be irreversible.
