The topic I am going to be talking to you about today is the current and future impact that global warming is having on all life on Earth.
How is global warming effecting the habitat and wildlife of Antarctica? According to the guardian.com, oceans in the west of Antarctica have warmed up to over a degree in the past 60 years. Due to this happening, species like penguins and seals have been at the treat of extinction. The rise in temperature has also caused the rapid melting of ice sheets. This is causing habitats to decrease in size making it harder for more on land animals like polar bears.
This is only one key area of the effects of global warming is having on us. What could we do to stop the damage happening in Antarctica? Reducing the amount of carbon emissions being released into the area. Switching to electric cars, using bikes, walking. All these can support and slow down the rate of global warming.
What is it doing to humans as a whole? Probably one of the biggest things that could hurt humans is the rise in sea level caused by the ice melting. This could put major coastal cities underwater in under a century. According to timeout.com, the top 5 cities that could be underwater by just 2030 are Amsterdam, Basra in Iraq, New Orleans, Venice and Bangkok. This will cause humans to move more inland. The problem with that is, it will cause a refugee crisis. pushing more humans together causing chaos more that it already is.
The evidence shows a big role for the possible future of humans on the planet. One way we could stop this is to reduce the amount of carbon emissions being released into the world. Switching to renewable energy to help the decrease will be the biggest contributing factor.
What would happen to the climate in the near future? We will get more intense weather events, intense rains, extreme heat, bigger natural disasters. All these will become more frequent. The average global temperature could rise up another 1.5 degrees in the coming decades due to human impact. This could increase skin cancer possibilities and an increase in flooding due to sea level rise. This all is caused by human impact and will effect everyone and everything on Earth.
These are only a select few things that are already starting to happen and will only get worse over time. We need the world leaders to start acting on these issues and stop ignoring it. Otherwise they will continue to make future and current generations suffer. Making everyone forced to live in a worse world.
My overall point that I am trying to get across is the different ways global warming is affecting us. My 3 points combined explain the steady decline that is happening and will continue to happen.
