Golf

Coach: Martin Bryant

Golf this year looked a little different since Coach Tom Middlebrooks retired and Coach Bryant took the lead; however, the athletes have adjusted just fine.

The program is growing more and more as athletes decide to try their hand at golf.

"The golf team this year consists of Derek Murphy, Aubryana Henderson, Breanna Briggs, Skylah Block and Marin Bryant. Our home golf course is New Haven Golf Club. We practice on the golf course as much as weather will allow this time of year. Last year, most of the golf tournaments were around Texarkana, so we tried to expand our schedule and allow the kids to play some different courses. We have played tournaments in Mt. Pleasant, Sulphur Springs and Texarkana and we have an upcoming tournament in Paris.

Being an individual sport, golf is very intrinsic. It requires an athlete to be very aware of their movements in order to make improvements in the sport. That being said, I feel like our golfers have improved dramatically during the season. My goal is to grow the golf program from 5 members to 10 by next year. Currently we are looking for students that are interested in the game of golf and willing to practice after school from December to April. We have a few sets of clubs that have been donated by community members and are inquiring about purchasing more sets so we can include more students."-Coach Martin Bryant

"This is my second year being a part of the golf team. I look forward to seeing what my teammates and I will accomplish this season."- Skylah

Breanna Briggs

"This is my second year in golf and it's still enjoyable to play each week. We seem to practice a lot more than last year and it appears to be paying off since all participants are improving overall. Our goal is to make it to STATE!"- Breanna

"Golf is definitely a frustrating activity at times, but it's very rewarding getting to watch my scores go down and see improvement the longer I play.

The whole team is always having fun and getting better together."-Marin

Derek Murphy

"I have enjoyed my time with golf and have learned many lessons while playing the sport. I hope for the next group to have nothing but the best time."
