Our production this year, The Storm in the Barn, was adapted from a graphic novel. I was really captivated by the visuals of the novel and how the play script worked to reflect that. The Storm in the Barn centers on an 11 year old boy named Jack in Dust Bowl era Kansas. Jack's small farming town is quickly being abandoned and his older sister is dying from the effects of the dust. Jack is bullied by his peers and his father is disappointed in his lack of maturity. When Jack explores an abandoned barn, he discovers a creature, The Storm King, who holds the key to restoring Jack's little town to its former prosperity. And Jack finds the courage to be a hero.
We encountered a number of setbacks in our production this year, from losing actors and crew members for various reasons, to dealing with quarantines for the first 6 weeks of the rehearsal process. We overcame all of this to create a production that I think we are all very proud of. The actors and crew members truly have made this show their own with their creativity and hard work. I'm privileged to have been here to watch these kids grow and flourish during this difficult season. We compete at the Bi District Level on Thursday, March 24th, and we are all so excited to have the opportunity to tell this story again. - Kate Davis Chambers
