MEDICAL SUPPORT

Introduction cards to use at the doctors - ESOL/refugees and asylum seekers

A pocket sized card for use when visiting the GP. On one side is the English text and the other side has the translation. It can be used to make an introduction to the reception, to request equal and fair treatment, and to ask for compassion and understanding of difficult circumstances.

Communication cards for medical support - ESOL/refugees and asylum seekers

A double-sided card with useful vocabulary and phrases with translations. It can be used to speed up and clarify communication about health problems with the doctor, nurse, reception staff, in the hospital, with people who work in supporting organisations and to members of the public.

LASSN supports asylum seekers and refugees in Leeds by empowering them and helping them to integrate into the UK, whilst being happy and accessing their needs. 

PAFRAS provide support and information to refugees and asylum seekers in Leeds, including support with legal information.

New Roots Leeds offer crisis support, social integration advice and activities, and support with education and employment. You can call them on 07778 105 404.

Join the meeting every Thursday at 1:30pm at Mill Hill Chapel, Leeds City Centre (near the train station). The Conversation Club is an informal and friendly space for asylum seekers and refugees to improve and practise their English through social engagement, by chatting over tea and playing games together – instead of in a formal teaching environment.

Bahar Women’s Association aims to support women from all different backgrounds to have equal opportunities in day-to-day life, from helping with delivering food parcels to offering advocacy work, such as applying for benefits or passports. SUPPORT IN HARROGATE AND NORTH YORKSHIRE

The Harrogate Hub worked with the City of Sanctuary Harrogate District and HADCA to join in with supporting and welcoming refugees to the town. Visit the site to get useful information and guidance. 

The Toy Library is based in Knaresborough - you can book toys to borrow for your children so that you don't have to buy toys and you can keep things interesting for your little ones. They also run play sessions during term time. A free one-year membership is available for refugees. Visit the site to find out more.
