In Equiano class, we have been learning about Paul Nash and his impact on the artwork scene during World War 1. He studied battlefields and completed artworks depicting the atrocities seen on them. We looked at elements from this and create our own charcoal drawings based on them.
We have been inquiring into the different technological advancements of World War 1 and how it impacted soldiers at the time.
We have been investigating how both sides of the War used propaganda to help the war effort. We created our own propaganda posters using Canva. We made sure to include motivational quotes.
As part of our learning about our local community and linking to our line of inquiry around 'Communities influence health, support, and inclusion'. We visited the Kent Police Museum in Faversham to learn about the history of our police force. It was a fun and engaging museum with lots of learning taking place.
Whilst touring the Kent Police Museum, we came across the historical story of The Manslaughter of Noah Eastwood (1952) and we had a class discussion as to whether the punishment did fit the crime. We have some wonderul and thought out opinions from our students in Equiano.
As part of our line of inquiry 'Our Identity develops through rights, responsibilities and beliefs', we have been learning about the start of World War 1 (The Great War) and which countries have been involved. We created our own maps to display this on an online tool.

As part of our learning about our local community and linking to our line of inquiry around 'Communities influence health, support, and inclusion'. We designed our own community centre to cater for the needs of others.
As part of our English lessons, around the book 'The Goldfish Boy', we created our own Agony Aunt responses to the mother of the protagonist of the story.
As part of our learning around Malala, we have read the book 'Malala's Magic Pencil'. We thought about what we would do if we had our own magic pencil.
During the computing element of our learning, we have been learning to use Canva to create advertisements. We created advertisements for the community centres that we designed in a previous lesson.
As part of our learning around communities and equalities, we have been learning about Malala. We read the story 'Malala's Magic Pencil' and did our own research about Malala. We created these facts files to show our learning.
As part of our learning around our own community, we considered as a class what we do for people in our own community. We considered people from all walks of life and reflected on what more we could do.
Before going on Community Participation, we did our own research about the town of Dartford and the places we are going. We developed these into our own Google Slides to present our work to each other.
Whilst learning about reading OS maps, we linked this to our community participation and our lines of inquiry. We used an OS map to plan a route into dartford from the school.
Whilst learning about Yayoi Kusama, we create our own artwork inspired by her and her dots. This allowed us to understand her connection with the dots and in her view that everyone in the world is a dot.
Equiano class had a wonderful time at Community Participation. We went to Dartford where we explored the town centre. We went to Dartford Museum, Dartford Holy Trinity Church and most importantly, McDonalds.
Equiano Class went to the charity shops in Dartford City Centre to explore and donate items for the area of Dartford. This is a crucial element to our learning about our local community.
As part of our Tea and Talk, Equiano class showed off the work we have been doing at Milestone @ Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy. This included all the learning around Dartford community, OS Maps and Yayoi Kusama.
