Each Friday, the Year 11 students from phase 3, are visiting Bore Place, which is a working dairy farm to engage in some work placement experience.
During our first week, students made bird feeders, prepared tyres for planting potatoes and also visited the milking sheds.
Week 2 - Carol was our Bore Place teacher. We started this week with a walk up to see the dairy cows in the field. It was a tricky as the ground was very uneven. After this, we went to the campfire area to use the large sticks to make a shelter. Just before lunch we planted pea shoots and after lunch we met Buddy, the therapy dog and made pictures using the flowers.
Week 3 was a very productive week, First we went for a walk to pick edible flowers to go in the biscuits we will make. We met two new Friesian calves, Bailey and Casper. After this, we washed out hands and made biscuits placing the flowers inside. After lunch, we were put to work and made confetti cones filling them with dried petals. Jessica did a great job waxing the wooden box and Chris gently lay the tissue in, so Bailey, Michael and Jake could place the confetti cones in for the wedding.
This week, 10th May 2024 we had glorious sunshine at Bore Place. Our learning involved making bird feeders, as they had eaten all of their food. We used flowers to dye pieces of cloth. We were then fortunate to go on the outdoor adventure play area, this helped develop gross motor and teamwork skills.
This week was a very productive week, we put our horticulture and cooking skills to work. First, we completely weeded a bay and planted pumpkins, next we planted potatoes in tyres and lastly we collected some herbs to make some tasty scones.
Our last day at Bore Place was a glorious sunny day allowing for lots of outdoor learning and picnic. Our first activity involved a beautiful walk to collect flowers, which we used to make memory birds with. After our picnic lunch we had a campfire, we used a flint and steel to light it and then made smores, melting marshmallows on sticks.
