For cooking this term we are looking at different lunches around the world. We made marinated chicken wraps and chips. Our favourite recipe so far!
Continuing with our learning about Rivers, we created our own rivers using various materials. We labelled them after so we can see the different features of a river.
We used a software called Scratch to create an animation about an animal from a polar region. We got our sprites to move and talk.
Part of our central idea, we have been looking at sharing the planet especially in our school. Renaissance learnt about plastic pollution but also what the impacts of littering are. We walked around school and helped by litter picking!

We have been looking at recipes from colder Countries and what they eat to keep warm. We made tomato soup and cheese toasties, it was delicious!
Part of our RE learning about Islam we went on a trip to the Gravesend Mosque. We saw how muslims pray, what they believe in and even ate some chocolate!
In class we learnt about different glaciers and where we find them. In pairs, we created a presentation to show our research which we presented to the rest of the class.
We looked at what the water cycle is and how they are linked to glaciers. We made our own water cycle!
We have been looking at the formation of Glaciers in class and the different layers and that a glacier. We used different materials to create our own glaciers.
For inquiry we looked at where different glaciers are around the world. We had to set the beebots with the correct directions to locate the different Countries we can find glaciers.
As part of our community participation, Renaissance walked to the shops where we had a look at our local area, visited the libray where we took some books back for our class read and even enjoyed an ice cream to cool us down from the heat!
For maths, we are looking at positions and directions. The children played a classroom maze game where they had to guide their partner to the prize. We used the terms left, right, in front, behind, clockwise, anti clockwise and quarter turns.
Module 4
As we are heading into spring, we are looking at farming especially different fruit and vegetables grown. We are incorporating this into our cooking lessons. This week we made carrot pancakes. We drizzled these with golden syrup and they were delicious.
We walked to the memory clinic, where we played bingo, joined in the raffle and ate some cake!
We ended our world book week by creating a charlie and the chocolate factory hat. We had a phase 3 hat parade!
We have been looking at measuring different masses.
We looked at investigating the change of state. We used cream, vanilla extract, ice and salt to make ice cream! We had to use a lot of resilience to keep on shaking the bag. We used our gross motor skills. It was delicious!
We become chocolate connoisseurs this week. We looked at different chocolates to help us design and create our own marvellous creations. We could have used marshmallows, jellybeans and smarties.
To start world book week revolving around charlie and the chocolate factory, we looked at creating our own good or bad eggs based on our favourite characters, while listening to the story.

For maths, Renaissance have been looking at multiplication. They have been using arrays and their times table knowledge to help them answer questions. Emily has been creating arrays to show what multiplication sum it shows. While Victor has been able to discuss how many rows and columns make up an array.
During our inquiry lessons , we have been looking at different Buddhist artefacts to support us in RE. We had an opportunity to explore the different artefacts and then predict what it was. We explored what the different artefacts were used for and what they were made from.
Part of our inquiry this term we looked at Chinese new year which is being celebrated in this current time. We looked at what it is and how it is celebrated. Renaissance had a chance to look at different recipes which are made and we chose which ones we would like to make.
For our first cooking lesson, Renaissance made crispy tofu. We used our chopping, measuring and frying skills to help us.
We then continued our cooking by making vegetable spring rolls. We had to grate and chop up our vegetables then fry them ready to roll. Victor was frying the beanshoots ready to make our spring rolls. Everyone then got stuck in and started to make the spring rolls by putting the wrappers in water, adding the mixture and then folding them in the right shape we needed.
Renaissance made some vegetable gyozas. Reg and Kieran were helping to grate the cabbage then peel and grate the mushrooms. We had to stir fry all our ingredients with soy sauce and our seasonings . We had to use our folding skills to fold the gyozas wrappers tightly. To cook these, we had to boil them in water.
To make our salt and pepper chicken, we had to cut up some chicken. Grace and Harvie didn't like the feeling so we wore some gloves to help.
We made some delicious salt and pepper chicken. Renaissance finished all this within minutes (with help from Kyle)!

Renaissance worked collaboratively as a team to design, create and make their door for the Christmas Door compeition. They used scissor skills on different fabrics and decided upon the most effective way to join the textiles to cardboard. Students problem solved to overcome problems.
Kieron is ensuring he is applying consistent pressure with the rolling skills.
It was tricky to tease the dough from the cutters to keep the reindeer shape!
Students completed a taste test and designed how to ice the bisuits for the Christmas market.
Students are engaged in their research for successful Christmas Market products and decorations.
Students have been developing their decoding and blending skills as well as reading for fluency during a reading for pleasure session.
Module 1
This module has been full of different learning experiences.
In maths the students have been practising and embedding their knowledge of the value of numbers. They have completed this via various mediums and activities.
They particularly love to write on the tables. they also like to attempt the clean up after.
In Science they have been learning about the body. The muscles within the body and the organs. They have been very focused during this learning experience.
In horticulture, which we have modules 1,3 and 5, we have been lucky enough to get outside, mostly avoiding the rain and before it becomes too cold. We have been weeding and planting Peas and broad beans. We have been using various types of equipment.
In English we have been reading The adventures of Odysseus. The students particularly enjoyed learning about the Cyclops. We have discussed the chapters and worked on our dictionary work and writing sentences.
In Inquiry we have learned about the Seven modern wonders of the world. The class have enjoyed researching different countries and their wonders. We rounded the learning by settling on Brazil and "The Christ the Redeemer" we looked at celebrations and festivals. We made quite elaborate masks in a nod to the extraordinary flamboyant festivals.
We also made Brazilian Salsa, which the students took home to share with their families.
The whole class have really enjoyed learning about different decades music, different genres of music. They have used different instruments to match the beat, and during the last lesson of the module they enjoyed a Karaoke. Even though most did not feel they wanted to get up with the microphone all were extremely powerful backing singers.
For the second time this module a primary school came into school and a few of the students joined them in taking part in some activities. The students that attended had a great time.
We are all looking forward to our inquiry day and in preparation we have started to make our hats.
After a busy day of making our hats, mindfulness colouring and wordsearches and dissecting a heart in Science. We had a hat parade and dancing in the playground. A great deal of fun was had by the phase. It was a fun activity dancing in the sunshine.
It was a fun way to end the module.
