Phase 3 Celebrations
As part of the Inquiry week, families joined us to participate with some learning. Using recyclable materials, each class made a part of the cycle of the earth existence and the impact of changing climates.
Billions of years ago, Earth was very hot. Rivers of red lava and tumbling black rocks snaked across a burning earth, while erupting volcanoes spewed clouds of dust into the sky. Earth's first atmosphere was made of a swirling mix of poisonous gases that wrapped around it.
Over billions of years. Earth's climate changed in cycles of hot and cold. Mostly the climate has been hot. Gases wrapped around the planet, trapping heat like a blanket. Life thrived. But disaster struck! A huge asteroid crashed into the earth, almost destroying life on Earth. Dinosaurs plunged into cold darkness, dust blocked out the sun. The dinosaurs died.
Over time, sunlight burned through the dusty haze created by the asteroid, life began to flourish again. Over millions of years, humans evolved and exlored the world. At first they lived in the harmony with nature. People discovered how to release energy by burning fossil fuels. This made a gas called carbon dioxide. Humans began to change the air.
As well as the methane in bogs, scientists are measuring bubbles of ancient air trapped in mountain glaciers and deep polar ice to study the story of climate change.
As temperatures rise, the oceans soak up the heat, causing the seawater to warm, This upsets the balance of nature in our seas. Coral reefs are dying, animals are losing their homes. Glaciers are melting, ice sheets slip faster into the sea causing sea levels to rise, causing problems for lots of animals.
Across the world, plants and animals flee or must adapt to this rapid change. Water sources are dry, deserts are expanding. Forests are drying out, which sparks raging fires that fill the air with smoke. Habitats are being destroyed, leading to near extinction of our wildlife.
In recent years, we have become more and more aware and educated about the problems humans are causing for nature. Whilst most energy still comes from fossil fuels. A new energy is changing the world. Green energy uses nature; rays of the sun, power of wind and tides, which can go on forever without polluting our earth.
Scientists all over the world have proved that humans are causing the Climate change and are sharing knowledge about how we can stop damaging our earth. Millions of children are making their voices heard too, by asking brave questions and protesting against the dangers of climate change.
Students from Renaissance and Sparta Class worked together to dig up our potato crop.
Tegan took part in a Country Gymkhana at the weekend and was proud not only to take part, but to also win first place for 'in-hand cross country'.
This is Solomon's handwriting journey this module. These pictures show clear progress.
World Book Day 2025
Phase 3 had a wonderful week with World Book Day activities! Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was the focus text and has been such a fun and creative theme, perfect for sparking the imagination of students.
Each class will share the excellent learning engagements they have had this week, Here are some pictures celebrating the whole phase showcasing their hat creations!
