During cooking , 17.11.22, we used the inspiration of the Master chef 'ingredients round' and provided students with ingredients including pizza bases, tomato puree, cheese, butter cream, custard, squirty cream, chocolate drops, marshmallows, hundreds and thousands. The students used their knowledge of flavour to create their own pizza. All of Aztecs were extremely engaged and enjoyed the end result, but maybe not the skill of clearing up!!!
Members of Aztec Class prepared the ghost pumpkins they grew in the school allotment ready to make some yummy scones.
24.11.22 After mashing the pumpkins, we mixed them into a scone mixture and added some winter spices to make Pumpkin Spiced Scones. We learned how to use digital scales, making sure we zero them before we try to weigh and ingredient. We mashed the pumpkin, and also rolled the mixture out making sure it was the same thickness all over. Once the scones were in the oven, we continued to develop our house keeping skills to leave the kitchen in a clean and tidy state ready for the next person.
We used the last of our Pumpkin to make pumpkin pie, the students then tried them and really enjoyed these with some double cream.
As a special treat for Christmas, the students made Rocky Road. The students learned how to melt chocolate using the microwave and suggested that we could make it solid again in the fridge. Sabriella and Chris did a great job of clearing up.
Term 3 Cooking
This term, we are making dishes from the Indian Culture, this involves exploring different spices. Students are developing and improving their grating and cutting skills. This week '19.01.23' we made 'Broccoli Tiki'
On 26th and 27th January, Aztec class made a classic sweet from India called a chocolate barfi. We learned how to use the hob and saucepans safely.
Our sweets were made from, milk, dried milk, butter, sugar, turmeric and cardamom.
We have used our maths skills to ensure that the sweet in the tray was cut equally so we could all have the same amount each. The microwave was used to melt the chocolate, we dipped the barfi in ready to eat.
