Intro to College Math: Intro to College Math is a course that was designed by college professors. This course is intended to prepare targeted incoming 12th graders for success in MATH 100 or Intro to College Statistics at any UH campus. The course will focus on:
Algebra
Functions
Geometry
Statistics domains of the Common Core State Standards (emphasis on mathematical modeling and quantitative reasoning)
MATH 100 is a dual credit course offered through Leeward Community College where high school students can earn both high school and college credit simultaneously. MATH 100 includes a variety of selected mathematical topics designed to acquaint students with examples of mathematical literacy and quantitative reasoning that demonstrate the usefulness of quantitative reasoning. The core course content includes deductive, numeric, symbolic, graphical and statistical algorithms and reasoning. MATH 100 is not intended as, and does not qualify as, a prerequisite for advanced mathematics courses.
Enrollment for this course usually takes place after SBA scores are returned to the school (end of the school year or beginning of summer break).
In order to qualify for MATH 100, you must meet the following requirements:
Student must be a part of the class of 2022
Student must receive a score of 2 on the 11th grade Smarter Balanced Math Assessment
Students with a score of 2 will be given priority into the Intro to College Math course opportunity
If space is available, enrollment is opened to all interested incoming 12th graders
Students must have met all other Math requirements prior to enrollment (Algebra 1 and Geometry are required in order to receive a diploma)
By the Fall 2021 Semester, students must meet one of the following test requirements:
A grade of B or better in the Intro to College Math course (Fall semester)
SBA English Qualifying Score: 3
ACT English Qualifying Score: 2
SAT English Qualifying Score: 530
Fall Semester: students will be enrolled in Intro to College Mathematics for 2 consecutive periods
Spring Semester: students will stay in their 2 consecutive periods to work on MATH 100 Online through Leeward CC
Credits earned
Fall Semester: 1 High School Math Credit
Spring Semester: 1 High School Math Credit and 3 College credits that are transferable to most colleges and universities with a passing grade
