ENG 12A was designed as preparation course for students who are enrolled to take the early college ENG100 course offering in the Spring. This course is focused on skills preparation that includes time management, project planning, and writing skills.
ENG 100 is a dual credit course offered through Leeward Community College where high school students can earn both high school and college credit simultaneously. ENG 100 provides practice in producing substantial compositions at the college transfer level for courses across the curriculum. Engaging in research activities, students evaluate and integrate sources into their compositions. Engaging in research activities, students evaluate and integrate sources into their compositions. Following a recursive writing process, they analyze the rhetorical, conceptual, and stylistic demands of writing for various purposes and audiences. Students apply the principles of expository writing and produce compositions that have clear ideas, adequate support, logical organization, and correct sentence structure. Students become proficient language users, independent learners, and thoughtful members of an academic community. Prerequisite: Appropriate writing test score or ENG 22 with a grade of C or higher; and completion of ENG 21 with a grade of C or higher, or appropriate reading placement test score; or approval from the Language Arts Division. Rec Preparation: Experience in using computers for writing.
Early College Open Enrollment takes place towards the end of February. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ENROLL IN ANY EARLY COLLEGE COURSES DURING THIS REGISTRATION PROCESS. Please pay attention to morning bulletin announcements in February for the open enrollment meeting, parent night date, and enrollment deadlines. If you meet the requirements below, course changes will be made by your alpha counselor by the start of the 2021-2022 school year.
In order to qualify for ENG 100, you must meet the following requirements:
Student must be a part of the class of 2022
Student cannot be scheduled to take AP Lit or AP Lang during the 2021-2022 school year
Student needs to have successfully completed Expos 1 or its equivalent (this is a graduation requirement)
AP Language and Composition or AP Literature and Composition count as an Expos 1
By the Fall 2021 Semester, students must meet one of the following test requirements:
SBA English Qualifying Score: 4
ACT English Qualifying Score: 18
SAT English Qualifying Score: 510
EdReady English Qualifying Score: 64
