SCHOOL SPOTLIGHTS
Connect 4 Specials Night
We had an amazing time at our "Connect 4" Specials Night family fun event last Thursday. Families enjoyed touring the JCSS STEAM Bus and tackling the "Space Escape" escape room challenge created by our very own Gum Springs Gizmos for their Innovation project in this year's FIRST LEGO League Robotics competition. It was an awesome experience for the team to see their creation come to life and so many families enjoying their idea.
We also enjoyed hosting game-themed family challenges and activities to share more about the great experiences our students have in four of our specials classes: STEM, Ag, ASL, and In-Motion. We enjoyed "Match Game" activities, agriculture-style; teaching our families some our favorite ASL games at "Math Mania;" testing our "Concentration" on the In-Motion obstacle course; building a "Candy Land"-inspired bridge that could hold candy bars; designing LEGO cars sturdy enough to support our family in a "Life" challenge; creating electric circuits at the "Operation" Station; and trying a challenging "Hungry, Hungry Hippos" robotics game! The atrium was turned into an awesome art gallery, as well, featuring the work of our talented Panthers. Thanks to everyone who made this year's event extra-fun!
Our Read Across America Week Celebration!
Read Across America Week was LOTS OF FUN as we celebrated our love of reading with fun dress-up themes and awesome decorations around the school. We also had a little fun looking for hidden miniatures of Mrs. Gassman and Mrs. McKay (disguised at Waldos, of course!) hidden around the school each day. Thanks to everyone who participated in our week of fun!

Book Character Parade
One of everyone's favorite parts about Read Across America Week was our Book Character Parade! We loved seeing all the creative costumes inspired by our students' and staff members' favorite stories and books. Even Gus showed up in a creative costume as the The Lorax. We had so much fun!
WJMS Guest Readers Visit GSES
One of our highlights of last week's Read Across America Week celebration was having guest readers from the West Jackson Middle School Student Council visit our classrooms and share their favorite stories. We also loved that several of the students readers were some of our very own GSES alumni, and we loved having them back in our halls and classrooms! The WJMS team did a super job helping spread the love of reading to our Panthers.
Author-Illustrator Nick Mask Inspires Panthers
What a treat to have author and illustrator Nick Mask visit our students to wrap up our Read Across America Week celebration last Friday! Students loved hearing a read-aloud one of Mr. Mask's famous Waffles the Cat books and learning about what inspires his stories and illustrations. They especially enjoyed an art lesson with Mr. Mask learning how to draw Waffles the Cat. We loved having this special visitor at GSES!
100 Star Reward!
Mrs. Roberts & Mrs. Seiple's kindergarten class enjoyed a big celebration on last week. They earned 100 STARS for hallway compliments! To celebrate, they were able to bring in a stuffed animal, have a popcorn snack and watch a movie. Great job showing PAWS expectations, Kindergarten!
PANTHER SUPPORTERS
Thanks to The Jefferson Church for sponsoring Chick-Fil-A breakfast for our staff on our recent Staff Work Day. It was just the fuel we needed to get ready for a busy day of preparing for parent conferences, report cards, and professional learning. We appreciate your generosity and the many ways you support our school and community!
The second Thursday of every month from 4:00 P.M. until supplies last, Free Chapel Braselton is hosting a Mobile Food Pantry. This will be an opportunity for families in need to receive FREE groceries. There is no sign up; all you must do is show up and receive your groceries. We appreciate their community support.
