ORANGE you glad to be a Panther?! Congraulations to the Ottawa (Orange) Tribe for earning the most positivie behavior points and capturing the February Tribe of the Month title. This is their first win this year, and our Ottowa tribe members are excited to see the orange flag flying in front of our school. Students enjoyed claiming their prize from the Tribe Treat Trolley this week. Congratulations, Ottowa!

SCHOOL SPOTLIGHTS
We've had one amazing week celebrating all things reading in this year's Read Across America Week celebration! Check out the all the fun!
Our Panther supporters are the best! In just one week, we received responses from ALL 50 STATES to help us share the love of reading from ALL ACROSS AMERICA! We also got responses from British Columbia, Grenada, Australia, Thailand, England, and the United Kingdom. How cool is that?! We loved getting to help our students see the USA through the eyes of readers connected to our school. Thanks to all of you who helped us reach our goal for this fun project. Check out some of the amazing pictures we got of readers from around the country! You can view more on our school Facebook page as well.
PANTHER PARADE OF CHARACTERS
Our Book Character Parade on Friday was SO MUCH FUN! We loved seeing everyone's favorite characters and amazing creativity. You can watch our parade HERE or check out even more great photos in our album on the GSES Facebook page. We loved seeing so many students and staff members excited to share a love of reading.
Our staff members worked hard to turn our school into a book-lovers paradise for Read Across America week. Look at some of the fun displays they created to celebrate our favorite books and authors!
Rechin's Readers in kindergarten have enjoyed lots of Suess-themed learning activities this week. They went "fishing" for digraphs in their books, completed hundreds chart puzzles to reveal The Lorax, and practiced following directions to create Cat in the Hat portraits. Students also completed home projects where they wrote about their favorite books and illustrated them, then presented their projects to their classmates.
Mrs. Kelley, Mrs. Cote, and Mrs. Scott's multi-age class enjoyed digging into Dr. Seuss books this week. Some of the learning activities they enjoyed included practicing patterns and name building with Cat in the Hat; exploring sorting, counting, and addition with One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish; and following directions with Put Me in the Zoo. Their class loves to incorporate literacy into any of their learning experiences, especially if a snack is involved.
Guest readers from West Jackson Middle School Student Council visited us on Thursday to read to classes. We loved having so many of our alumni back at GSES to celebrate reading with our students.
2nd graders are making math fun! Mrs. Auten's class created an array city and included local restaurants and schools. Students were given a number and had to create their array based on it. Then to review map skills they had learned earlier in the year, students created questions about the map they created. Mrs. Meier also turned the display into an interactive game! Students can practice answering questions about the giant map, then scan QR codes to see if their answers are correct.
