News & Updates
Don't forget! This Wednesday, October 26th is our Early Release Day for parent conferences. JCSS elementary schools will release at 11:30 A.M., and there are no clubs or After-School Program. Since all students will be car or bus riders that day, we do anticipate the car rider line may be longer than usual, so please plan travel time accordingly. We appreciate your patience. Please make sure your child's teacher is aware of your family's transportation plan for that afternoon (and please don't forget to communicate it to your child as well). All students will be served lunch before school dismisses.
Since we began our earlier arrival time several weeks ago, mornings have been running much more effeciently, allowing us to begin our instructional day on time. We are happy to celebrate that the car rider line moves smoothly with little to no wait from 7:05-7:30. We appreciate your support and help in making this a successful change for GSES. As a reminder, the tardy bell rings at 7:40 AM; therefore, students arriving after 7:40 AM will be counted tardy and will need to report to the front office accompanied by a parent/guardian.
We are proud to be a part of the National Red Ribbon Week celebration next week, focusing on helping students understand why it is important to make good life choices. We hope your child be excited to participate in our theme days.
Congratulations to this week's Panther Spirit Contest winners Gideon Morris, Hadley Morris, Emily Kate Bell, and Olivia Elrod. Each of these students earned a free ticket from the Secret Spirit Squad to Friday Night's Pink Out game at JCHS!
Please do not plan to wear costumes to school on Halloween.

Our Staff Spotlight for this Mindset shines on EL Coordinator and Teacher Mrs. Jennifer Simmons. Mrs. Simmons true passion is HER STUDENTS, and anyone who works with her would agree. 7 Mindsets Spotlight
In our 7 Mindsets Curriculum, the "Passion First" mindset teaches students that it is essential to find out what our individual strengths and talents are so that we might connect them with our goals and visions for the future. In this mindset, we work with students to understand their unique gifts, their skills and strengths, and how to share them with the world to the maximum extent possible. As they learn about this important mindset, students explore their interests and begin to identify their core values and what they stand for. We also help students learn how to make their dreams into reality, tapping into both the courage and perseverance needed to overcome any challenges they encounter in pursuit of the lives they desire.
Our Student Spotlight for this Mindset shines on 1st graders Saray Sandrea-Rojas. Saray is always eager to learn about anything and everything. She works to her highest potential and her work ethic consistently goes above and beyond the expectation. Saray's passion constantly has her looking for more people and more ways to help her find all of the knowledge she seeks.
Happy Days are Here!
Happy Days were here at GSES this week as we celebrated the 50th Day of School with lots of fun and learning. Our youngest students enjoyed activities like coloring by number to uncover a hidden picture of the number 50, learning the letter sound and song “Letter Pop” to the tune of the 1950s hit “Lollipop,” and making scientific predictions about whether or not ice cream will sink or float in their coke floats. Older students enjoyed activities like comparing prices of common household items in the 1950s with their current prices and finding the price differences, using digital production sites to create 1950s-inspired infographics, and comparing and contrasting 1950s television with modern-day entertainment. (One class even enjoyed watching the first episode of Dennis the Menace that aired in 1958!) And, of course, there was the over-the-top fun during specials rotations today as students honed their hula hoop and jump rope skills, tried out classic games like jacks and checkers, and shook a leg at the SOCK HOP! Lots of biggest bubble gum bubble contests were had and root beer floats were consumed, and a great time was had by all! (Plus is there really anything cuter than miniature Pink Ladies and tiny T-Birds?!) We sure have grown a lot during the first 50 days of school this year! Be sure to check out 50th Day Photo on Facebook for lots more photos of our fun day of learning.
