Mrs. Holder has worked at GSES since it opened and is connected to our school and community. She is the leader of our 1st grade Dream Team and works hard building positive relationships with her teammates, her students, and their families. She's always willing to lend a helping hand, no matter what is needed!
We are excited to recognize 1st grade teacher Mrs. Holder and 2nd grade student Anaya as GSES recipients of the "We are Connected" Mindset Hero Award. In this mindset, individuals are focused on embracing everyone, maximizing positive relationships, building a dream team, and leading with value.
Thank you for helping make GSES a better place, Mrs. Holder and Anaya!
Anaya is an amazing student who always works hard to do her best. She is self-motivated and kind-hearted. She is always willing to help in any way she can, and she meets any challenge head-on with a smile on her face!
SCHOOL SPOTLIGHTS
You may have recently enjoyed the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, but did you know that our 2nd graders (along with some of their Book Buddies in 4th and 5th grades) created their own version of the parade for our school to watch?! Students enjoyed reading Balloons Over Broadway, the amazing true story of Tony Sarg, the self-taught immigrant puppeteer with an amazing imagination who invented the first balloons for the Macy's parade. Students then worked with partners to design and build the own unique balloon creations. It wasn't easy work, but it sure was fun! We were impressed with students' creativity and resourcefulness. Classes enjoyed lining the halls as our students showed off their amazing art!
Mrs. Goodrick's 3rd grade class put their "real world" math skills to work before the holidays planning a Thanksgiving dinner for a family of four. Students had to take into account family members' likes and dislikes, available choices, and prices to feed each person so that they could stay under budget. It took some serious planning, thought, and learning that going back to make changes is always an important part of budgeting!
3rd graders have also been learning about the different Native American tribes across the U.S. and how their ways of life were influenced by the resources in their habitats. Mrs. Goodrick's students created models of different Native American homes to show what they have learned about each tribe.
KDG LEARNING LABS
Kindergarten has been busy having fun while learning the past few weeks! Mrs. Milburn's class reviewed 3D shapes and numbers by incorporating robotics and coding into their geometry unit and tackling different STEM Challenges.
Mr. Stone's class enjoyed learning about what life was like long ago during Colonial Days explorations. They learned how to sweep, stack fire wood, make butter, shuck corn, and create beaded necklaces.
Mrs. Chandler's class enjoyed a "Taste of Thanksgiving" and celebrating with their friends!
Mrs. Cash's students enjoyed a Pie Party where they collected data to determine which Thanksgiving pie was their class favorite!
