Georgia Mobile Dairy Classroom Visits GSES
This week all of our GSES students had the opportunity to learn about Georgia’s dairy industry from Mrs. Nicole Duvall, the Georgia Mobile Dairy Classroom Teacher. She brought Maggie, the Jersey cow, to teach students about how milk gets from the cow to the store. Students were amazed that cows are considered adults at one year old and can have their first calf at two years old. Students witnessed the process of milking Maggie. Did you know the average dairy cow produces 8 gallons of milk each day?! Thanks to our Ag Specials teacher Mrs. Thomas for arranging this opportunity for our students. Be sure to ask your kids about their experience!
4th Graders Excel at 4-H Competition
GSES 4th graders have been hard at work for the past several weeks preparing presentations for Jackson County 4-H's annual Project Achievement Competition. Students researched a topic of their choice, wrote an informational report, prepared a speech to present about their topic, created posters or other visual aids, and presented their projects to their classmates and judges. Public speaking is no easy task, and we are PANTHER PROUD of these awesome 4th graders for doing hard things! Judges are visiting all the elementary schools in Jackson County this month, so students are eagerly awaiting results to find out which of them will be invited to represent Jackson County 4-H at District Project Achievement in March. Great job, 4th grade!
Learning "How-To" Directions is a Piece of Cake!
Thanks to Mrs. Natasha Mitchell from Wild Orchids Event Planning for making a special visit to GSES recently. She brought her professional tools and supplies to Ms. Hendley's class to lead students in a fun "how-to" lesson for Valentine's Day. Ms. Hendley's students loved trying out Mrs. Mitchell's tools as they learned how to decorate a cake!
Chick-Fil-A Inspires at All Pro Dad Event
We had a great time this week at our second All Pro Dad event of the school year. Mr. Drew Turner, Chief of Staff at Chick-Fil-A, delivered an inspiring message to our dads, male mentors, and students about the importance of teamwork. He reminded dads that they don’t have to be the strongest, fastest, bravest, smartest, or coolest—they just have to be AVAILABLE! We loved seeing so many dads being available tonight to spend time with their kids at our event. (Fun Fact: Mr. Turner spent three years playing the role of Georgia Tech's mascot Buzz when he was in college!)
We also had a great time learning more about Chick-Fil-A’s philosophies and participating in some fun teamwork activities. Meeting the Chick-Fil-A cow and being gifted some awesome Chick-Fil-A swag was pretty cool too! Thanks to Mr. Turner and his team at Chick-fil-A Robson Crossing for supporting our All Pro Dad program.
