Navigator’s Notes
We started our day with a (virtual) tour of Boston. We went to the Science Museum, the Children's Museum, followed the Freedom Trail, ate at Quincy Market, and did many other cool things. Then our in-person crew had an awesome visit from Dr. Amber Makaiau. Dr. Makaiau shared the poem "Hawai‘i Pono‘ī" with us. This got us thinking about what it means to live in Hawai‘i and issues surrounding culture and race. After listening to the poem, we wrote down our wonderings, and did p4c with Dr. Makaiau. Our question was "Why do we assume certain things based on how people look? Would things change if we didn't assume?" It was a good discussion!
After a nice lunch together we headed to the UH Music Department. We met up with our new friends from the Hawai‘i Youth Opera Chorus and Hawai‘i Opera Theater "Operatunities" program. Today we sung, learned a hula dance, and went to a cool talk and demonstration about how lighting is used in performances. That was really interesting. We ended our day by heading back to the UH p4c office to meet up with our Yoga teacher Aunty Naoko.
