The evolution continues. Now in its third year, VRT switched to a hybrid format. 3 days a week students (virtually) visited with National Park Rangers and Museum Educators from far away places from all around the country and world. Learning from their guests and reflecting through their p4c Hawai‘i discussion practice, the students delved ever deeper into understanding the natural, social, and historical complexities of their world. The other two days a week were spent in-person at the University of Hawai‘i Uehiro Academy office. Students met daily with University faculty guest speakers, engaged in p4c Hawai‘i inquiries, and pursued the summer's aims of Hearing People's Stories, Becoming Family with Nature, and Being the Change. This site chronicles the experiences, memories, and insights of this remarkable group of 32 Grade 2-11 students from Hawai‘i.
The Virtual Road Trip (VRT) 2022 & p4c Hawai‘i Summer Program was an outreach group created by the University of Hawai‘i Uehiro Academy for Philosophy and Ethics in Education (home of philosophy for children Hawai‘i). Nearly 60 students (Grades 1 through 14) participated in VRT 2020, VRT 2021, and VRT 2022. Over the course of 26 months they became a VRT family, grew into an advanced p4c Hawai‘i demonstration group, and shared numerous meaningful conversations.
