Food List for Sensory Support in Organization and Functional Skills

Purpose: To provide a list of foods that could help organize and calm your child to support functional skills and behavior.
Oral input is organizing for children. Infants use sucking to calm themselves. Throughout our lifespan, we use different oral input for assisting with attention, alertness, and supporting functional skills. Adults use gum, chew on the end of their pencils, etc. while focusing to do paperwork.
The following foods can be used to try to give your child oral input. Try to observe what foods help to organize, calm, or alert your child to bring them to a more functional state of arousal. Please let me know if you find that certain foods are more helpful than others.
