Tweezers Pickup

Materials Needed:

  • tweezers

  • various tongs

  • small balls or pom poms, or unifix cubes

  • container

Directions:

  • hold the tweezers in one hand

  • hold the container in the other

  • hold the tweezers with your thumb, pointer, and middle fingers

  • pick up the objects and put them into the container

Goals:

  • separation of the two sides of the hand

  • hand muscle development

Modifications:

  • changing the tongs used can make the task more or less difficult

  • using a variety of objects to pick up can challenge a student

  • the smaller the objects/tweezers, the harder the activity

  • make sure the pinky and ring finger are curled up and stabilized in the palm

  • arms placed on table gives more stability, making the task easier

  • arms hanging in space gives less stability, making the task harder
