Wiggle Worms

Materials Needed:

• pencil

• glue

• pipe cleaners

• wiggle eyes

• magnetic tape 3/8" long

• cardboard with a maze drawn on it

• 1/4" dowel, 3" long with magnet glued on end

Directions:

• make the worm

  • wrap the pipe cleaner around a pencil to form a tight coil

  • slip the pipe cleaner off the pencil

  • glue wiggly eyes to one end

  • glue the magnetic tape to the underside of the worm

  • let it dry

• moving the worm

  • hold the cardboard maze with one hand and place the worm on the maze

  • hold the dowel with a three finger grasp

  • place the magnetic side against the cardboard

  • make the worm move through the maze by sliding the dowel

Goals:

• simple rotation

• in-hand manipulation

• tripod grasp

• open web space

• sense of touch

Modifications:

• make sure the pinky and ring finger are curled up and stabilized in the palm
