Bean Bags and Clothespins

Materials Needed:

  • bean bags

  • clothespins (one per student)

Directions:

  • Sit in circle if big group, or two students facing each other

  • hold clothespin with thumb, pointer, and middle finger

  • pick up bean bag with clothespin, being sure to hold it correctly, and pass it along to the next student

  • keep passing along with clothespin

  • put beanbags in bucket as passed along

Goal:

  • separation of two sides of hand

  • muscle development of hands

Modifications:

  • have student hold ring and pinky fingers in the palm of the hand. This reinforces hand separation. If needed, place small object to hold (pom pom) in hand

  • shoulder stability...easier if arms are resting on a surface, harder if arms are suspended in space

  • can use heavier/larger beanbags
