Card Shuffle and Play

Materials Needed:

• deck of cards

Directions:

• student to hold half a deck in each hand

• student shuffles the deck of cards, using thumbs on the end, fanning the cards from both hands together

• deal out the deck holding the deck with one hand, and moving the card through the other hand to play a game

• play go fish for number matching

• play rummy for sequencing and matching

• play war for simple rotation (turning card with fingers before putting down with no wrist movement)

Modifications:

• easier to shuffle by holding part of the deck with one hand cupped and sliding the remaining cards in one at a time

• work with arms resting on table or out in space unsupported
