I had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Lorelei Carvajal on November 23rd, 2020. She provided positive feedback on my welcome video, organizations, instructional techniques, student feedback, clear expectations, and engagement in the class. She said, "The use of visual images, color, and diverse learning tools (videos, discussions, quizzes) allows all students to demonstrate learning in various ways capitalizing on the strengths-based mindset. The organization of the course is also a significant strength- the course is easy to navigate which sets students up for success from day one. The quality of personalized feedback is exceptional and illustrates how the instructor is engaged with each student throughout the course." I am very pleased that Dr. Carvajal found my feedback and student interactions exceptional. I strive to build connections with my students in the online environment and to provide them with feedback that is meaningful and helpful. I want my students to understand that I am a real person/teacher and that I want to help them succeed. Dr. Carvajal noted that my syllabus included "student friendly wording" and that "the emphasis on knowing how to to contact the instructor is very important and noted." I am glad that she recognized my efforts to build positive relationships and open the lines of communication.
During our conversation, Dr. Carvajal suggested that I comment, "No Submission" in addition to entering zeros for missing assignments. She explained that this comment will help document the reason for the zero if there is ever a student issue. Since our meeting, I have been incorporating her advise. I definitely want to make sure that I am maintaining quality documentation that will accurately depict the student's performance in my class.
Dr. Carvajal and I discussed teaching strategies and I really appreciated her insight and perspective. I feel as though she validated my efforts and supported my approach. This evaluation and meeting was a very positive learning experience for me.
