I wanted to learn more about the expectations and the best practices for our demographic of students, so I attended the e-learning training taught by Beth Eyres on 8/16/18. The training gave me an opportunity to meet and collaborate with other online teachers and learn about the expectations for teaching online at Glendale Community College. The greatest takeaway from the training was the concept of zero week. There are several things that should be done the week before classes start to set the tone for learning, increase engagement, and build positive rapport, including posting a pre-class announcement and reaching out to students individually. I utilized the zero week strategies in my online classes and they really helped me build positive relationships with my students, open up the lines of communication, and create a positive online learning environment.
