On my student evaluations, many of my students commented on the messages I sent to check on them. I am really glad that these messages were well received and that my students understood I was eager to help them. The evaluations also complimented the organization of my courses, my feedback, and my engagement. I am please that my students felt supported and connected to me while taking my online class. Fall was a challenging semester because many of my students would not have chosen online if there were other options, so I am glad they still had a positive learning experience.
"Professor Hopson is by far the best professor I’ve had in the past 3 years. It seems like she has so much joy for teaching. I like all her material that she planned and how connected she was with the students including her weekly checkup emails."
"This is my first time trying out Online courses, and I think Professor Hopson did a great job! She always sent emails/Canvas messages reaching out to students, checking in on their progress, and offering help. She is also super positive, encouraging, and gives great feedback! Thank you :) "
"Erika Hopson is probably the most attentive teacher I have had in my time with Maricopa Community Colleges. You can tell she really wants her students to learn and succeed. She is always reaching out to offer guidance and support."
"One of the best instructors I have had! She is so supportive and provides tons of resources and materials for everything we're learning. Her good work does not deserve to go unnoticed."
All of the responses, but one, were "Strongly Agree" and "Agree." One student selected "Disagree" on the statement, "My instructor provided clear instructions for assignments and exams." That student chose "Strongly Agree" and "Agree" for all of the other answers and left the comment "Good teacher." I really wish this student would have explained his/her response in the section for comments. I would like more information on what he/she found unclear so I can modify the directions to enhance the clarity.
One of my HES210 students commented that she is going into nursing and would have appreciated working with case studies and scenarios to apply the information we were learning.
"For myself going into nursing, I would have loved to be given specific scenarios in which I would have to find a response to communicate back to individuals based on their cultural/family traditions so I had a "hands on" approach once I am in the nursing field. Overall, I loved the class and my professor made me excited to come back & learn more. At times I'd get ahead of myself and want to learn chapters faster than usual because the course was so interesting. Mrs. Hopson was very interactive online and such a positive, encouraging soul, so I hope one day I have the chance to meet her in person "
This feedback is really helpful. This class is taken by a variety of students with a variety of majors, so I would like to find a way to differentiate the scenarios and strategies to benefit and apply to students going into various fields.
Two of my students mentioned that additional videos from me would enhance the course. I have been working on recording more videos for my students, but it is a challenge for me. I cringe at my voice on tape and feel very awkward on video. This feedback was a good reminder that my students appreciate the videos I am making and motivates me to leave my comfort zone to create additional videos for them.
One of my EXS101 students requested additional guided notes. I am very glad they found the guided notes I included helpful. I will be creating additional guided notes to provide my students with extra support.
