After talking to Rainier Perez at the Health Fair, I wanted to learn more about saving lives by stopping bleeding in emergency situations. It was eye opening to me that many of the lives lost in the Florida mass shooting would have been saved if their wounds were packed.
I attended a training presented by the Stop the Bleed organization on December 10th. The goal of the Stop the Bleed organization is to provide bystanders with the tools they need to save lives in bleeding emergencies. This training was eye opening and informative. I have completed many first aid and CPR trainings in the past, but I never understood how fatal and scary blood loss can be. I learned how to pack wounds, apply tourniquets, and identify life threatening injuries.
I hope I never have to use these skills, but if something horrible happens on campus, I will apply what I learned and hopefully help save lives.
