In my spare time, I finished a second Master's Degree!!!!!
I earned a Master's in Education in 2006 and and went back to school in 2017 to earn a Master's degree in Exercise Science. With the progress I made on my second Master's Degree in Exercise Science prior to my interview, I met the minimum requirements to be hired. However, it was really important to me to finish my Master's Degree in Exercise Science and to do so in a timely manner. I believed it would enhance my personal knowledge, increase my credibility, and keep me current with the latest trends and research developments in the industry. After I accepted this position at Glendale Community College, I completed AES-6440 Practicum in Fitness and Health Promotion, AES-6300 Exercise and Sport Nutrition, AES-6460 Business Development and Entrepreneurship in Fitness and Health Promotion, and AES-6990 Capstone in Applied Exercise Science. I am proud to say that I successfully completed these courses while adjusting to my new position. I am looking forward to having homework free evenings and weekends.
I learned a great deal about both health and exercise science that directly relates to what I teach. I also experienced first hand the impact of a quality instructor. I had some quality instructors who truly inspired me and motivated me to go above and beyond. I also, unfortunately, experienced some instructors who were not engaged or responsive. As a student, I found this frustrating. I was less engaged and motivated in these courses, even though I enjoyed the content. As a teacher, I want to make sure that I utilize the strategies that my quality instructors used to inspire my students and make sure that my students have a positive learning experience. Sending out kind "check in" messages, providing helpful feedback, and answering questions in a timely manner makes a big difference to students.
