New Canvas Gradebook Training

On December 3rd, I attended the training on the new Canvas gradebook that was lead by Polly Laubach. As the eCourse coordinator, I took notes during this training so I could report back to all of the online teachers in my department. I learned that in addition to the features currently offered in the Canvas gradebook, new features have been added. I am most excited about the new feature that allows instructors to set a policy for late and/or missing assignments that will be implemented automatically. In the past, when I deducted points on late assignments, it messed up the rubric and I had to write a comment to explain to my students what they actually earned and what the late deduction was. This new feature will allow me to complete my rubric and provide feedback to my student without having to worry about the late deduction. After I grade the assignment, Canvas will automatically deduct the necessary points and document it in a way that is easy for my student to understand.
