Student Evaluations

I am so pleased that a common theme throughout all of my students evaluations was that I am caring and willing to help. I really strive to create a environment in both my in-person and online classes where students feel comfortable asking questions and understand that I have their best interests at heart.

100% of my students awarded me the highest rating for my overall performance, knowledge of the subject matter, enthusiasm for the subject matter, and for stimulating students to succeed. All of the marks I received on my evaluations were either Excellent or Very Good. While I am very pleased with the positive feedback, I am interested in learning more so I can improve. I teach a prerequisite course, so I would love the opportunity to give my students a follow up evaluation after they take their next course so I can learn about any content areas that I need to clarify and/or spend more time teaching.

One of my EXS101 hybrid students said, "I hate how short this class was. I had so much fun and learned so many interesting things." This is the first semester that I have taught this class as an 8 week hybrid and I also felt that it was too short. I really enjoy the lessons and activities in this class, so it has been challenging for me to cut back. I have been reflecting on ways to maximize our limited class time and I am working on assigning more online work to create a better balance.

In the advise to future students section, one of my HES210 students said, "Not to buy the book." I wish I could follow up with this student to seek more information. The reading quizzes in this course definitely require the text, so I believe and hope the student provided this advice because I have the book on reserve. This class is the only class I teach that requires a book and I do want my students to struggle financially to purchase the text. For this reason, I made arrangements to have a copy of the required textbook on reserve in the libraries at both main and north campus. I provided information about the textbook reserve and reminded students frequently about the option to use the copies in the libraries instead of purchasing the book. I hope that this student provided that advice based on my announcements, and not because he or she did not find the textbook to be a valuable resource for the course.

EXS101 Hybrid Feedback:

I am going to miss Mrs. Hopson. I really liked the class.

This by far is my favorite instructor I've ever had. She is so understanding and helpful and makes you feel like you always got the hang of it. If there was ever a question she would go to her greatest extent to help me understand it. I felt with my instructor she actually loves to teach and enjoys helping us student while most GCC instructors are the complete opposite.
