On 11/3/18, I attended the CEC workshop that was organized by the fitness and wellness department at Glendale Community College. The workshop consisted of two speakers, a marketing expert and a social media expert. This event was planned to support our students entering the workforce and our partners in the community. The marketing expert discussed big picture planning, mission statements, tag lines, and visions. The social media expert provided tips and tricks for marketing yourself using social media. While I am not looking to be an entrepreneur or market myself, many of my students are starting businesses and looking to build their clientele. The information I learned will help me guide and provide resources to my students who are looking to create and/or market their own business.
Having the opportunity to meet with Louise So, who organized the event, taught me a great deal about the all of the work that goes in behind the scenes. The workshop ran smoothly, but there were a few areas for improvement. I met with the leaders afterward to brainstorm areas of opportunity and solutions to the minor hitches we encountered. Eventually, I would love to play an active role in planning and executing events and workshops to support student development and promote community outreach, so her insight was extremely valuable. In addition to learning about marketing strategies, I learned strategies for planning successful events at Glendale Community College.
