Hello Mission Valley Elementary Families,
We've had a great start to the school year and I'm very impressed with our students so far. They are quickly following their routines, building friendships, and meeting behavior expectations. It was a pleasure meeting so many of you at Back to School Night. If you missed our presentations, here are the Principal slides and MVSA presentation for your reference.
This month we are planning assemblies to review our Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) "3 Be's" program. We'll also host Bullying/Harassment presentations for all our students. By intentionally teaching expected behaviors and routines we hope to create a positive school culture and establish appropriate behavior supports. We encourage families to reinforce and model what it means to

Be a Problem Solver.
Come to our first Community Chat hosted by Ms. Tamana and I on Tuesday, September 24th. The meeting starts at 6:00pm and will be held on Zoom. We'll share more information about our PBIS program and school counseling services.

Please cast your vote for the two open parent/community member seats on our School Site Council (SSC). These nominees are representative of your voices on topics such as the Comprehensive School Safety Plan (CSSP), the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), intervention funding, and Proposition 28 funding. Principal McClintock and Counselor Tamana will be hosting Community Chats throughout the year. Our first one will be on Tuesday, September 24th at 6:00pm via Zoom. The purpose is to connect with families, share information, and learn about school programs. We value your voices and perspectives and want to make these chats meaningful. Please complete the School Needs Assessment survey. Your responses will help shape the content of our meetings, meeting times, and meeting modes. iReady "For Families" Score Reports
Fremont Unified School District students in grades 1 through 5 are completing their Fall Reading and Mathematics diagnostic exams in i-Ready. “For Families” score reports for i-Ready diagnostic exams are automatically available to parents/guardians at the completion of the assessments. Students will be able to download a “For Families” report through their i-Ready account accessed through Clever. "Start with Hello Week" is a week for our school and community to feel more connected and for students to learn how to reach out to those who may be lonely or need support. It is from the Sandy Hook Promise to promote inclusivity and reduce school violence. We hope every class can participate in this exciting and important week! There will be lunchtime activities each day and all students are welcome! Please see the flyer below for themed spirit dress days and encourage your child to participate.

Free Dance and Music Program
Tri-City Band Corps, a non-profit organization started here in Fremont in 2004 offers free instrumental band and color guard (dance) programs for students from elementary to high school. Since we’ve started in 2019, we have served over 2000 FUSD students replacing the former Fremont Education Foundation program. Programs are available for students Grade 4+. The goal of our programs is to teach young students how to play music; and our programs are free of charge for all students. We also provide free instrument rentals to low income families. Parents can learn more about our program and register their students on our website: https://tricitybandcorps.org/.

We have several exciting events and study trips coming up and are thrilled to welcome back parent volunteers for the 2024-2025 school year! All volunteers must:
Have pre-approval of teacher/principal
Submit an application through CiviCore
Volunteers that are transporting students must submit proof of insurance
CiviCore applications are good for 1 year and all FUSD children (even if at different schools)
Sign in and out at the office
Wear a visitor badge at all times

Before/After School Extended Day Program
Before/After School Extended Day Program
Families at Mission Valley may enroll their child in a before and after school extended day program with the YMCA. Families with students who are designated in one or more specific categories (English learners, foster youth, homeless students, migrant students, and students who are free or reduced-price meal eligible) may be eligible to participate in the YMCA Program at Mission Valley at no cost through the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P). Please submit the ELO-P application to determine eligibility and visit the FUSD ELO-P website for details or contact Zeah Izaz at zizaz@ymcaestbay.org.

FREE School Meals Program
FREE School Meals Program
All students are eligible for one free breakfast meal and one lunch meal this school year. Breakfast is served in the multiuse room daily from 7:45-8:10am. Drop off your student in the front of school or valet. Students will follow the signs and walk down the main hallway to the multiuse room. After eating and cleaning up, students will head out to the blacktop and be in line by the start bell (grades TK-K 8:10am, 1-5 8:20am).
The lunch break for grades 3-5 is from 11:00-11:45am. Kindergarten is from 11:45am-12:25pm and grades 1-2 from 11:45am-12:30pm. After eating and cleaning up, students will go to the blacktop and play structures for recess.
If students forget lunches and water bottles you can leave them in the "lunch cart" in front of the office by 10:30am daily. The cart will be delivered to the multiuse room before lunchtime and it is the student's responsibility to retrieve their items. Students who forget to bring lunch may receive a free school lunch. Students should bring a pre-filled water bottle to school daily and may refill water bottles at our refilling stations as needed.
