Mission Valley Elementary School

41700 Denise St. Fremont, CA 94539 [MAP]

Hello Mission Valley Elementary Families,

We had a very busy October full of fun and engaging activities for our staff and students. During Red Ribbon Week we pledged to be drug free! It was great to see so many students participating in themed dress days and lunchtime activities. We also had student assemblies for the Kids Against Hunger meal packing event. Check out the blurb in this month's newsletter for more information about the upcoming event on November 17th and our school's fundraising campaign to help provide nutritious food for impoverished children and families. Lastly, we saw several displays to celebrate fall festivities including Diwali and Halloween! Many thanks to parent volunteers who gave classroom presentations. And let's not forget the hard working volunteers of MVSA who funded our Pumpkin Patch for primary grades, put up amazing Halloween decorations to spruce up our parade, provided a videographer and photographer to document the event, and prepared goodie bags for students. We are so thankful for our generous and thoughtful community members! Check out some photos below.

You may have noticed some extra traffic cones on Denise Street and updated signage for "no left turns" into the valet area. We also have a group of dedicated adults volunteering to help monitor crosswalks before and after school. Student safety is our priority and we hope these extra measures reiterate that message to everyone in our community, including our neighbors. A huge shout out to the joint efforts of MVSA and our site Safety Committee for quickly putting these ideas into action! We can always use more volunteers for the crosswalks so if you have some time to spare before or after school please sign up on Konstella for the remaining open spots.

Remember to set your clocks back one hour this Sunday, November 6th since daylight savings time ends! Later this month we will be hosting Parent-Teacher Conferences. Then shortly after will have our week-long Thanksgiving break. It's a very busy time of year with no shortage of things to do! We hope you are able to take time to be with your families and loved ones, show appreciation for each other, and relax together.

For any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Be sure to check out our school website for the most current information regarding events, schedules, and contact information. GO BEAVERS!

Principal McClintock enjoyed some time in the Pumpkin Patch with Ms. Treichler and her Kindergarten students.

Busy Beavers Fundraiser

There is still time to contribute a voluntary donation for enrichments to the Mission Valley experience including instructional materials, equipment, technology, programs, and special events! Help us reach our goal of $30,000! We are about half way there. Any amount donated towards our Busy Beavers fundraising campaign is sincerely appreciated. Remember to inquire your employers who offer matching contributions. Please make checks payable to MVSA and print your student's name and room # on the memo line. These can be submitted to the office or your child's teacher. Online donations can be submitted on the Konstella website.

We are so excited to bring back the Kids Against Hunger meal packing event! This is an amazing opportunity for our community to come together and give back to those in need. You can watch the video from the October 2019 Mission Valley KAH Packing Event. The meals were packed by the MV community and donated to Abode Services homeless shelters.

To help make this a successful event, please consider donating any amount and help us reach our goal of raising $5,000 to pack 20,000 meals on November 17th! Principal McClintock challenged our students and if we meet or exceed the goal she will wear a beaver costume on November 18th! Here is the flyer that was sent home in your child's Friday folder. Checks made payable to "Kids Against Hunger Fremont" or cash donations can be turned in to your child's teacher or the office. Check out the flyer for information about making a PayPal donation.

We are still looking for a few more adults to volunteer at the event. You can sign up through MVSA's Konstella app or contact the office.

Stopping the Spread of Disease

As we enter the cold and flu season – with COVID-19 still circulating in our community – many of the precautions we’ve taken to limit the spread of COVID-19 will help us keep ourselves and each other healthy.

Please continue to follow the protocols in place for 2022-23:

  • Parents/Guardians must review the student health screener prior to a student entering FUSD facilities, events or District-operated vehicles.

  • Keep students home while sick! Report student absences for illness, and positive test results for COVID-19, to your student’s school office.

  • Masks are recommended indoors, and are available in school front offices.

  • FUSD provides testing opportunities to students.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation to protect the health of our school community.

COVID Testing for Staff and Students

FUSD continues to offer COVID testing to all Mission Valley Elementary students from 8:00 - 11:30AM in room 1. All students that wish to participate in testing this year will have to fill out a new waiver. Each school has an updated link here. COVID testing will continue to be available at the district office Monday-Friday from 7:00AM - 3:00PM.

FUSD Family Resource Website

On this FUSD Family Resource Website, you will find resources, news, information about upcoming events that FUSD will host throughout the school year, past presentations, ways to encourage learning at home, and more. FUSD will continue to update this site so please be sure to bookmark this site and check back for more updates.

Traffic Safety

Mornings can be very hectic for families and all of us are working hard to get our students to school safely. Please remember to abide by all traffic laws when driving in school zones and the surrounding neighborhood (ie. put your cell phones down, keep the crosswalks clear, avoid left turns, etc.). Check out this tip sheet from Alameda County for information about keeping our students and community safe.

For safety reasons there are no left turns into the valet lane from McKay. There are no left turns into the staff parking lot. The staff parking lot is not to be used as a pick up/drop off area and we need to keep it clear for our staff arriving to work and leaving campus. There are also no left turns out of the valet driveway. The orange cones are set up to guide traffic and should not be moved for any reason. Please share this information with shuttles or other drivers that may be dropping off or picking up your child.

If you are interested in learning more about school safety, traffic control, or volunteering please contact the MVSA.

Cell Phone/Smartwatch Policy and Agreement

Cell phones/Smartwatches may be brought to school for safety purposes and students must follow the following guidelines:

  • Cell phone/Smartwatch must be powered off during all school hours (8:20AM - 2:45PM).

  • Cell phone/Smartwatch is to be kept in the student's backpack.

  • Cell phone/Smartwatch will not be loaned to another student.

  • Cell phone/Smartwatch is to be used to make a phone call for a ride only. It will not be used it to take pictures, listen to music, call friends, etc.

  • The school is not responsible for the cell phone/Smartwatch in the event of loss or damage.

Students who use cell phones/Smartwatches at any time during the instructional day shall be subject to the following progressive discipline procedures:

  • First Offense: the cell phone/Smartwatch will be confiscated and sent to the office with a referral slip. Parents will be called to pick up the cell phone/Smartwatch. Parents will be required to re-sign this agreement reaffirming the disciplinary process in place. Cell phone/Smartwatch banned for 1 week.

  • Subsequent offense(s) - (defiance): Additional parent contact and more severe disciplinary action including but not limited to suspension. Cell Phone/Smartwatch banned for 1 month.

Parents must provide a written request to the school for a student to carry a cell phone/Smartwatch. By filling out this form, students and parent/guardian is agreeing to the MV cell phone/Smartwatch policy.

Attendance and Tardies

Daily attendance and being on time are crucial factors in how successful children are in school. You are helping your children to set lifelong patterns when you prioritize their attendance in school and their arrival on time. Tardies interfere with instruction in the classroom, both in terms of the time the student is missing from the classroom and the disruption the student causes when he/she arrives. Education Code 48260.5 has strict guidelines for families to follow when truancy (absences) or tardies are a concern. A letter will be sent home to notify you when your child’s attendance record begins to suffer. Please help us to help your child learn responsible work habits by getting them to school on time. School starts at 8:20am every day.

FUSD Meal Information
