Hello Mission Valley Elementary Families,

We had an exciting start to the school year and were very happy to see so many families on campus for Back to School Night. Click on the links to the Principal's welcome and MVSA presentation if you missed them in the multiuse room that night.

This month Ms. Tamana and I will be hosting the first Principal's/Counselor's Community Chat on Friday, September 22nd. We'll meet in room 12 from 8:30-9:00am. At this session we will chat about Mission Valley's PBIS program and the "3B's" in addition to school counseling services.

The MVSA's Busy Beaver Fundraiser is underway! Thank you to those families that have already turned in donations. The Busy Beaver is the main fundraiser for the year that supports our school with technology, classroom materials, assemblies, student programs, and more. Please see the flyer in this newsletter for more information.

For any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Be sure to check out our new school website for the most current information regarding events, schedules, and contact information. You can also read the scrolling messages on our marquee near the valet entrance. GO BEAVERS!

Attendance and Tardies

Daily attendance and being on time are crucial factors in how successful children are in school. You are helping your children to set lifelong patterns when you prioritize their attendance in school and their arrival on time. Tardies interfere with instruction in the classroom, both in terms of the time the student is missing from the classroom and the disruption the student causes when he/she arrives. Education Code 48260.5 has strict guidelines for families to follow when truancy (absences) or tardies are a concern. A letter will be sent home to notify you when your child’s attendance record begins to suffer. Please help us to help your child learn responsible work habits by getting them to school on time. School starts at 8:20am every day.

September is National School Attendance Awareness Month, a month dedicated to showing how attendance is essential to school success. Absences, excused and unexcused, can quickly add up and cause academic difficulties. Did you know that missing 2 days a month means a child is chronically absent as they are missing 10% of the school year.  Attend today, Achieve tomorrow! Please see the attached handout for tips on helping your child succeed and build the habit of good attendance.

Forgotten Items, Lunches, and Water Bottles

We understand that mornings can be hectic and occasionally students forget things at home. If you need to drop off an item (ie. homework, sweatshirt, etc) for a student please email the teacher so they are aware the student needs to come to the office. Leave the item labeled with the student's name and classroom number on the credenza in the school office. The office will not interrupt classes during instructional time with phone calls or deliveries. It is up to the family to communicate and the student to pick up the item.

If students forget lunch items you can leave them on the "lunch cart" in the office by 10:30am daily. The cart will be delivered to the multiuse room before lunchtime. Students who forget to bring lunch may receive a free school lunch.

Students should bring a pre-filled water bottle to school daily. Students may refill water bottles at our refilling stations as needed.
