Hello Mission Valley Elementary Families,
November flew by and we are already in our first full week of December! Last month students learned about Diwali through lunchtime art activities with MVSA. The Bike Mobile was on campus and the crew was able to repair about twenty bikes for free! We also had a successful toy drive and donated three bins full of toys for local families in need. Thank you for helping create memorable events for our students. We are so grateful for our community and volunteers for supporting events that make Mission Valley a special place.
This time of year we tend to see more students absent so please take care of your families, be safe, and follow district health guidelines if you need to keep your child at home. Please do not schedule appointments or family travel during regular school hours. Studies show that students are most successful when they are present in person to take advantage of academic, behavioral, and social emotional learning opportunities. Last month Mission Valley's overall attendance rate was 94.86% which compared to last year at this time is a 0.4% improvement. Our goal is to improve overall school attendance. If your child has missed 10% or more of the school year, they are considered truant. Please contact the office if you need any support around your child's attendance.
We wish you and your families a safe and wonderful holiday season! There is no school from December 25th-January 5th due to winter break. Classes will resume in the new year on Monday, January 8th.
For any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Be sure to check out our school website for the most current information regarding events, schedules, and contact information. You can also read the scrolling messages on our marquee near the valet entrance. GO BEAVERS!

Parent Square
Parent Square is the new school-to-home communication platform used within Fremont Unified. ParentSquare allows teachers, staff, and parents/guardians to send and receive messages, share pictures and files, see calendar items, and much more via email, phone, text and/or the ParentSquare app.
Parents/Guardians received an activation email for their ParentSquare account over the summer. If you create an account, you’ll gain access to a variety of features and tools. Elementary Poster Contest
The Mineta Transportation Institute of San José State University is preparing for another Elementary Poster Contest which allows students nationwide (grades 1-6) to convey their knowledge of safe, affordable, and sustainable alternative transportation modes to passenger cars through an artistic, visually compelling image. This year’s theme is #VisionZero2030. The deadline to submit a poster is December 8, 2023.
Six winners—three from grades 1-3 and three from grades 4-6—will earn a cash prize in the form of a gift card and have their posters displayed in the Mineta Transportation Institute’s monthly newsletter and at our Annual Banquet at San José State University in June 2024. All prizes must be claimed by the end of the academic school year in which the entries were made.
Please feel free to contact alverina.weinardy@sjsu.edu if you have any questions or would like more information on the contest.
