Hello Mission Valley Elementary Families,
Can you believe we're already in our third trimester of school? I continue to be impressed by our students' progress and hard work. Teachers are readying report cards and families will have viewing access in the Illuminate Parent Portal beginning Friday, March 14th. In the meantime if you have questions about your student please reach out to their teachers.
We're starting off the month with Read Across America Week! It began with the birthday of Dr. Seuss on March 2nd. Ask your students to tell you how they celebrated literacy with students and staff. At home we encourage families to read together, aloud or in silence, and celebrate the gift of literacy!
Mission Valley students are also participating in the The Alameda County Safe Routes to School Golden Sneaker Contest March 3rd-14th. The challenge is to choose healthy modes of transportation such as walking, biking, and carpooling. The class with the highest participation rate will win the Golden Sneaker trophy and golden shoelaces! To help with vehicle parking please note that we recently installed an additional bike rack next to room 19. Also, please remember that California law requires anyone under the age of 18 to wear a helmet.
Let's have a great year! For any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Be sure to check out our school website or Parent Square for the most current information regarding events, schedules, and contact information. You can also read the scrolling messages on our marquee near the valet entrance. GO BEAVERS!

Hopkins Registration Information for Families
Please read the following advisory regarding head lice. We have seen cases in schools across Alameda County and would like to help prepare families in case your child contracts head lice. It is a good idea to check your child periodically for live lice and nits (eggs) and begin treatment as soon as possible.
Every year, California students take several statewide tests. When combined with other measures such as grades, classwork, and teacher observations, these tests give families and teachers a more complete picture of their child’s learning. Families can use the results to identify where a child is doing
well and where they might need more support.
Your child may be taking one or more of the following California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC), and Physical Fitness Test assessments. Pursuant to California Education Code Section 60615, parents and guardians may annually submit to the school a written request to excuse their child from any or all of the CAASPP assessments. This exemption does not exist for the ELPAC or Physical Fitness Test.
For more information on ELPAC please visit the websites below:
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, or CAASPP, is the state academic testing program. CAASPP is a system intended to provide information that can be used to monitor student progress and ensure that all students leave high school ready for college and career. CAASPP
includes computer adaptive tests and performance tasks in English language arts, mathematics, and science.
Students in grades 3-8 and 11 will take tests in English and Math in spring of 2025. Students in grades 5, 8, and an assigned high school grade will take the tests in science. Students in grades 6-7, who are enrolled in the district’s Spanish Dual Immersion program, will also take the California Spanish
Assessment. If you would like more information regarding your school’s schedule, please contact your school’s main office.
Following the spring testing, student score reports will be available electronically to parents/guardians in late summer/early fall. Reports will include an overall score, a description of the student’s achievement level for English language arts, mathematics, science if applicable, and other information.
If you would like more information, please visit the CAASPP Parent/Guardian Resources Web page. Parents and guardians have the right to exempt their students from taking the CAASPP assessments (EC 60615). If you have any questions or concerns regarding your student’s participation, please
contact your school’s principal.
Hello Parents,
Multicultural Fest 2025 is planned for Friday, April 11th. This event offers students a space to share their cultures, customs, and traditions with fellow students. Families are invited to the school to share elements of their culture/ ethnicity via our kids with other members of the school community.
This fest is led by the students supported by parents that will be having booths representing various countries, multiple activities for kids, food trucks, fashion show, music, dance etc. We really need a big pool of volunteers to make this successful and would love to have representation from multiple backgrounds to showcase the diversity of our community so we ask that families volunteer to be part of this celebration.
Preparation for this just started. Please contact/message/email if you would like to participate/volunteer in a team. We need team members for various tasks like planning team, execution team, campus design, decor, activities team, procurement team, food truck management, and fund raising. Feel free to share your creative thoughts and let's make it a great team work.

All students are eligible for one free breakfast meal and one lunch meal this school year. Breakfast is served in the multiuse room daily from 7:45-8:10am. Drop off your student in the front of school or valet. Students will follow the signs and walk down the main hallway to the multiuse room. The cart will be delivered to the multiuse room before lunchtime and it is the student's responsibility to retrieve their items. Students who forget to bring lunch may receive a free school lunch. Students should bring a pre-filled water bottle to school daily and may refill water bottles at our refilling stations as needed.
