Hello Mission Valley Elementary Families,

We hope that you have enjoyed a happy and healthy summer with your loved ones. We look forward to welcoming you to the 2023-24 school year! This is always an exciting time of the year with refreshed energy and fruitful opportunities to grow and learn on the horizon.

The front office opens on August 8, 2023. Please note that the hours are 7:30am-3:30pm. If you are in need of assistance you can call or visit in person. Alternatively you may send an email to any of our staff and our goal is to respond within 24 hours.

The first day of school is August 16, 2023. With many families coming to campus, we appreciate your cooperation in creating and maintaining a safe learning environment for all. Please abide by all traffic laws and drive carefully. There are no left turns from McKay Drive entering the valet nor when leaving the valet. Students may be dropped off in the valet zone or the sidewalks in front of the school. Those who arrive before 8:10am should wait in the designated hallway areas before supervision begins. We ask that families keep the sidewalks clear and respect the predesignated boundaries.

For any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Be sure to check out our new school website for the most current information regarding events, schedules, and contact information. You can also read the scrolling messages on our marquee near the valet entrance. GO BEAVERS!

COVID-19 Protocols

The following COVID-19 protocols are in effect for 2023-24:

Students and staff must continue to report COVID-19 cases to their school/supervisor if they were on campus or involved in a school/work activity during their infectious period (two days before either symptoms began or positive test was administered, whichever is first).

In alignment with California Department of Public Health guidance, COVID-19 positive individuals must isolate for five days, then may return to school/work — regardless of testing — as long as they’re feeling well, have improving symptoms and are fever-free for 24 hours.

Face coverings following a COVID-19 diagnosis will be:

Close contact notifications and testing opportunities will only be provided to staff exposed to COVID-19 in the workplace as outlined in Cal/OSHA guidance.

FUSD will maintain compliance with all applicable Cal/OSHA requirements for employers.

Office Business and Visitor Policy

When possible our office staff prefers to support parents and families via email or phone. Please contact specific staff members for any appointment requests.

Be sure your student has all of their belongings (backpack, homework, supplies, personal items, etc.) upon school arrival. We will not call classrooms or deliver items during class as this is a disruption to instruction.

Lunches and water bottles may be dropped off in the cart outside the office until 10:30am daily. The cart will be delivered to the multiuse room before lunchtime and it is the student's responsibility to retrieve their items. Students who forget to bring lunch may receive a free school lunch.

Mission Valley School Association (MVSA) needs volunteers!

MVSA provides funding and/or support for:

Explore volunteer opportunities on the MVSA website (http://mvsa-fremont.org/about-mvsa/mvsa-committees/) or by logging into Konstella (https://www.konstella.com/app) and selecting “Committees” in the left sidebar. Committee chairs can vote on MVSA financial matters.

We have an immediate need for volunteers on the “Communications and Website,” “Busy Beaver Fundraiser,” and “Safety” committees.

We have a brand new MVSA board for 2023-24, which will prioritize making MVSA’s goals, issues, and opportunities more transparent and visible to the community to improve participation rates that have dropped by 50% since the pandemic.

School Communication

School communication will be sent primarily through email and posted on the school website. Be sure to update your email in the online MAZE day forms to receive important communication from the school. Our web page can be accessed at https://fremontunified.org/missionvalley/ to find the school calendar, schedule, and important announcements. Newsletters are emailed and posted online monthly. Please contact your child's teacher for weekly communication and Friday folders.

ParentSquare provides a simple and safe way for everyone at school to connect, and allows parents/guardians to receive all district, school and classroom communication via email, text, or app.

Look out for more information in the coming weeks!

Student Pick Up and Drop Off

Mornings can be very hectic for families and all of us are working hard to get our students to school safely. Please remember to abide by all traffic laws when driving in school zones and the surrounding neighborhood (ie. put your cell phones down, keep the crosswalks clear, avoid left turns, etc.). Check out this tip sheet from Alameda County for information about keeping our students and community safe.

Please keep the front and rear parking lots clear. These parking spots are designated for Mission Valley staff. Families should not drive into the bus transportation loop. This is for school bus use only.

For safety reasons there are no left turns into the valet lane from McKay. There are no left turns into the staff parking lot. This area is not to be used as a pick up/drop off area and we need to keep it clear for our staff arriving to work and leaving campus. There are also no left turns out of the valet driveway. The orange cones are set up to guide traffic and should not be moved for any reason. Please share this information with shuttles or other drivers that may be dropping off or picking up your child.

If you are interested in learning more about school safety, traffic control, or volunteering please contact the MVSA.
