Hello Mission Valley Elementary Families,
We are starting to experience a slow shift in the weather for the fall season and daylight hours are shortening. Many thanks for your continued support of students and staff as we pass the midpoint of the trimester! We encourage you to keep open communication with your student's teachers and review the information in Friday folders. We believe a strong home-school connection leads to successful learners and a healthy community.
Another way to support Mission Valley is to become a member of our parent group Mission Valley School Association (MVSA). Our students wouldn't have a school garden, access to our computer lab, and more without the MVSA! In order to receive communication and information about the programs, events, and volunteer opportunities sponsored by MVSA, families need to sign up on Konstella. Our annual Busy Beavers fundraising campaign is in full swing and your generous donations directly benefit our students. Please consider donating and help us reach our fundraising goal! Go to their website and click on the "Busy Beavers Donations" button for more information about how to donate.
On the FUSD Family Resource Website, you will find resources, news, information about upcoming events that FUSD will host throughout the school year, past presentations, ways to encourage learning at home, and more. FUSD will continue to update this site so please be sure to bookmark this site and check back for more updates.
For any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Be sure to check out our school website for the most current information regarding events, schedules, and contact information. GO BEAVERS!

Office Business and Appointments
When possible our office staff prefers to support parents and families via email or phone. Please contact specific staff members for any appointment requests.
Be sure your student has all of their belongings (backpack, homework, supplies, personal items, etc.) upon school arrival. We will not call classrooms or deliver items during class as this is a disruption to instruction.
Lunches and water bottles may be dropped off in the cart outside the office until 10:45am daily. The cart will be delivered to the multiuse room before lunchtime and it is the student's responsibility to retrieve their items. Students who forget to bring lunch may receive a free school lunch.
Make Up Picture Day is Coming - October 11th!

To help you understand your child’s reports, we have included the following resources:

Students in grades 1-6 who completed the diagnostic assessment will have access to online i-Ready lessons based on their results. These lessons are unique based on your child’s strengths and areas for growth. If you have any questions, please email your child's teacher.
Traffic Safety
Mornings can be very hectic for families and all of us are working hard to get our students to school safely. Please remember to abide by all traffic laws when driving in school zones and the surrounding neighborhood (ie. put your cell phones down, keep the crosswalks clear, avoid left turns, etc.). Check out this tip sheet from Alameda County for information about keeping our students and community safe.
For safety reasons there are no left turns into the valet lane from McKay. There are no left turns into the staff parking lot. This area is not to be used as a pick up/drop off area and we need to keep it clear for our staff arriving to work and leaving campus. There are also no left turns out of the valet driveway. The orange cones are set up to guide traffic and should not be moved for any reason. Please share this information with shuttles or other drivers that may be dropping off or picking up your child.
If you are interested in learning more about school safety, traffic control, or volunteering please contact the MVSA.

Cell Phone/Smartwatch Policy and Agreement
Cell phones/Smartwatches may be brought to school for safety purposes and students must follow the following guidelines:

Cell phone/Smartwatch will not be loaned to another student.
Cell phone/Smartwatch is to be used to make a phone call for a ride only. It will not be used it to take pictures, listen to music, call friends, etc.
The school is not responsible for the cell phone/Smartwatch in the event of loss or damage.
Students who use cell phones/Smartwatches at any time during the instructional day shall be subject to the following progressive discipline procedures:
First Offense: the cell phone/Smartwatch will be confiscated and sent to the office with a referral slip. Parents will be called to pick up the cell phone/Smartwatch. Parents will be required to re-sign this agreement reaffirming the disciplinary process in place. Cell phone/Smartwatch banned for 1 week.
Subsequent offense(s) - (defiance): Additional parent contact and more severe disciplinary action including but not limited to suspension. Cell Phone/Smartwatch banned for 1 month.
Parents must provide a written request to the school for a student to carry a cell phone/Smartwatch. By filling out this form, students and parent/guardian is agreeing to the MV cell phone/Smartwatch policy.
Attendance and Tardies
Daily attendance and being on time are crucial factors in how successful children are in school. You are helping your children to set lifelong patterns when you prioritize their attendance in school and their arrival on time. Tardies interfere with instruction in the classroom, both in terms of the time the student is missing from the classroom and the disruption the student causes when he/she arrives. Education Code 48260.5 has strict guidelines for families to follow when truancy (absences) or tardies are a concern. A letter will be sent home to notify you when your child’s attendance record begins to suffer. Please help us to help your child learn responsible work habits by getting them to school on time. School starts at 8:20am every day.
