Mission Valley Elementary School

41700 Denise St. Fremont, CA 94539 [MAP]

Hello Mission Valley Elementary Families,

Many thanks to all for your support and an amazing start to the school year! Mr. Rivera helped start us off with a bang and organized the Chalk the Walk event in August. We had a good showing of families decorating our sidewalks with positive messages. And it has been a pleasure meeting many of you in the valet area, at Back to School Night, and at our first Principal's Coffee. Your presence is welcome and I encourage you to stay connected to school as much as possible. Our students are stronger and more successful when the home-school communication is open and active. Please do not hesitate to contact me or your child's teacher with any questions or concerns. Staff will respond to emails typically within 24-48 hours.

This month we are planning assemblies to review our Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) "3 Be's." By intentionally teaching expected behaviors and routines we hope to create a positive school culture and establish behavior supports. We encourage families to reinforce and model what it means to

  • Be Responsible

  • Be Respectful

  • Be a Problem Solver

You will see evidence of this program through Friday weekly notes. Teachers will communicate students' progress in demonstrating the 3 Be's and students can earn participation in the Fun Friday activities. Students that have difficulties demonstrating the 3 Be's consistently may receive an "Oops" ticket that will also be reflected in the weekly communication.

For any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Be sure to check out our school website for the most current information regarding events, schedules, and contact information. GO BEAVERS!

Office Business and Visitor Policy

When possible our office staff prefers to support parents and families via email or phone. Please be sure your child(ren) has all of their belongings (backpack, lunch, water bottle, etc) upon school arrival. We will not call classrooms or deliver items during class as this is a disruption to instruction.

All visitors must be pre-approved by the teacher and principal. All visitors must be fully vaccinated and must check in at the office prior to going into a classroom.

Cell Phone/Smartwatch Policy and Agreement

Cell phones/Smartwatches may be brought to school for safety purposes and students must follow the following guidelines:

  • Cell phone/smartwatch must be powered off during all school hours (8:20AM - 2:45PM).

  • Cell phone/smartwatch is to be kept in the student's backpack.

  • Cell phone/smartwatch will not be loaned to another student.

  • Cell phone/smartwatch is to be used to make a phone call for a ride only. It will not be used it to take pictures, listen to music, call friends, etc.

  • The school is not responsible for the cell phone/smartwatch in the event of loss or damage.

Students who use cell phones/Smartwatches at any time during the instructional day shall be subject to the following progressive discipline procedures:

  • First Offense: the cell phone/smartwatch will be confiscated and sent to the office with a referral slip. Parents will be called to pick up the cell phone/smartwatch. Parents will be required to re-sign this agreement reaffirming the disciplinary process in place. Cell phone/smartwatch banned for 1 week.

  • Subsequent offense(s) - (defiance): Additional parent contact and more severe disciplinary action including but not limited to suspension. Cell Phone/smartwatch banned for 1 month.

Parents must provide a written request to the school for a student to carry a cell phone/smartwatch. By filling out this form, students and parent/guardian is agreeing to the MV cell phone policy.

Attendance and Tardies

Daily attendance and being on time are crucial factors in how successful children are in school. You are helping your children to set lifelong patterns when you prioritize their attendance in school and their arrival on time. Tardies interfere with instruction in the classroom, both in terms of the time the student is missing from the classroom and the disruption the student causes when he/she arrives. Education Code 48260.5 has strict guidelines for families to follow when truancy (absences) or tardies are a concern. A letter will be sent home to notify you when your child’s attendance record begins to suffer. Please help us to help your child learn responsible work habits by getting them to school on time every day.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Water Bottles

Free breakfast will be available for students starting at 7:55am daily in room 8. Lunch will continue to be free for the 2022-2023 school year. Students may also bring lunch from home. Students will eat lunch at designated times according to the bell schedule. Select classes will eat their lunches in the outdoor eating area allowing other classes who will eat in the multi-use room to spread out appropriately.

Students should bring a pre-filled water bottle to school daily. Students may refill water bottles at our refilling station as needed.

If students forget lunch items you can leave them on the "lunch cart" in the office by 10:30am daily. The cart will be delivered to the multiuse room before lunchtime. Students who forget to bring lunch may receive a free school lunch.
