Hello Mission Valley Elementary Families,
Happy New Year and I hope you have all had a wonderful start to 2024! As our campus slowly wakes up from our long winter's nap we'd like to share some helpful tips with our community. We recommend families help students prep backpacks the night before, get to bed on time, and set aside screens so that students can better reacclimate to school routines. Eating well, drinking plenty of water, and daily excercise can boost our energy and ensure we are at our best for learning and interacting with peers.
This is also the perfect time to review our Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) "3 Be's" with students. We are always looking to recognize students that show what it means to "Be Responsible," "Be Respectful," and "Be a Problem Solver." Families will continue to receive Friday weekly notes for students, so please ask them about the Fun Friday activities they earned, Beaver tickets, or the Golden Beaver Trophy! Students that have difficulties demonstrating the 3 Be's consistently may receive an "Oops" ticket that will also be reflected in the weekly communication.
Be sure to take a look at the flyers in this newsletter. We are happy to offer multiple enrichment opportunities for our students. Programs and activities take place before and after school. Please contact providers directly for more details.
For any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Be sure to check out our school website for the most current information regarding events, schedules, and contact information. You can also read the scrolling messages on our marquee near the valet entrance. GO BEAVERS!

Joyofy - New Sign In/Out System
The office at Mission Valley is excited to announce that we are going digital! The office will be using Joyofy to check in/out students, sign in/out visitors, and more. Joyofy is an application that allows us to move us towards a more paperless environment. Please expect this change to come mid January.
Parent Square
Parent Square is the new school-to-home communication platform used within Fremont Unified. ParentSquare allows teachers, staff, and parents/guardians to send and receive messages, share pictures and files, see calendar items, and much more via email, phone, text and/or the ParentSquare app.
Parents/Guardians received an activation email for their ParentSquare account over the summer. If you create an account, you’ll gain access to a variety of features and tools. Those who do not register their account will still receive text, email and phone notifications sent from your student’s teacher(s), school or the District.
We look forward to connecting with you on ParentSquare!

Attendance
This is the time of year when winter weather takes a toll on school attendance. Road conditions and rain can make it hard to get your children to school. So can illnesses such as colds, flu, fevers, earaches, and COVID-19. These absences, even if they are excused, break the routine of daily attendance which can impact students feeling connected and engaged in learning. Please consider these steps to keep your children healthy and in school this winter.
1. Develop back up plans for getting your children to school. Check who can give your children a ride if you can’t take them, or form a “walking school bus” to walk to school with other families.
2. If your children get sick or you are concerned about Covid or the flu, talk to your child’s medical provider or the school nurse for advice.
3. Stomach pain and headaches can be signs of anxiety and may not be reasons for keeping a child home. If you feel that anxiety or stress is playing a role, talk to your child’s teacher, the school nurse, counselor or your medical provider about how best to support your child.
4. Encourage children to wash their hands before and after eating and after using the restroom.
5. Encourage healthy habits such as getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, drinking fluids and getting exercise.
Let us know how we can help you. If you’re having trouble, need resources or advice, please call Prinicpal McClintock at (510)656-2000 or email jmcclintock@fusdk12.net. Thank you for partnering with us!
