Mission Valley Elementary School

Hello Mission Valley Elementary Families,

We hope you had a relaxing spring break and were able to spend time with your loved ones. It is such a lovely time of the year with the warming weather, increasing sun, and blooming landscape all around us. Our students continue to change as well and it's always exciting to reflect on how much they've grown since August.

This month we start the standardized state tests. Students in grades 3-5 will be taking the SBAC in English and Math. Additionally fifth graders will take the CAST Science and Physical Fitness tests. All students will also take our local district iReady tests. Attendance during this last push of the school year is increasingly important as students and staff finish their final projects and exams.

For any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Be sure to check out our school website for the most current information regarding events, schedules, and contact information. You can also read the scrolling messages on our marquee near the valet entrance. GO BEAVERS!

Tools for Change

City of Fremont Youth & Family Services will be providing FREE 5-week series of parenting class “Tools for Change” in person, in Spanish.  The class will start on Tuesday, April 9th 2024.

Please see attached the flyer (in Spanish).  Please also note that the online class registration link is embedded in the flyer.

The series of parenting classes are designed for parents of adolescents (12-18 years old) and have been well received.  It’s rewarding to see that parents who attended build skills to relate to adolescents, improve teens’ wellbeing and the family relationship as well.

California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)

Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality Education

The Fremont Unified School District Board of Education and our school faculty believe it is important for students to assume responsibility for their own health and well-being. They benefit from instruction that fosters the development of positive health behaviors and the prevention of negative unhealthy behaviors. FUSD’s Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality Education (CHPSE) curriculum focuses on information that is essential for students’ well-being. This course of study conforms strictly to the guidelines provided by the California State Education Code 51933 and the California Healthy Youth Act.

These lessons will be taught by school district staff during the month of May. Classroom teachers will share specific dates with families.

State law allows you to remove your student from part or all of the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality lessons. Students opting out of lessons will be provided an alternate curriculum under the supervision of a credentialed teacher.  If you do not want your student to participate in all or part of the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality education program, you must provide, in writing (email or on paper), a note to your student’s teacher.

Links to the curriculum, opt-out information, and parent resources, can be found at: https://www.fremont.k12.ca.us/HealthResources.
