Mission Valley Elementary School

Hello Mission Valley Elementary Families,

This month we start the third trimester! We see our students making good progress and parents/guardians will be able to view report cards in Illuminate on March 22nd. If you have any concerns about your student's academic progress, behavior, attendance, or social emotional well-being please do not hesitate to reach out to our staff. We are here to support students and can recommend interventions and programs if needed.

There are many opportunities for students to stay connected to school during the regular day and after hours. There are daily lunchtime activities including the Art Room, Game Room, Crochet Club, and Gardening Club. Encourage your student to look at the activities calendars in their classrooms or the multiuse room. There's always something to do or try! The after school Fremont Debate Academy is taking sign ups this month for 4th and 5th graders. Additionally our after school Art Programs funded by Proposition 28 is starting the first week of March. Please see the flyers in this newsletter for more information.

For any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Be sure to check out our school website for the most current information regarding events, schedules, and contact information. You can also read the scrolling messages on our marquee near the valet entrance. GO BEAVERS!

Super Golden Beaver Trophy

At lunchtime we recognize the two tables  when students are respectful, responsible, and problem solvers. Those classes are dismissed for recess first and get first pick at playground equipment. We keep track using a sticker chart and at the end of each trimester one primary and one intermediate class is awarded the Super Golden Beaver Trophy. Congratulations to MS. BRILLO/MS. TREICHLER'S and MS. MARYMAN'S classes for winning the trophy second trimester. Winning classes have their picture taken and displayed in the multiuse room.

Safe Routes to Schools - Golden Sneaker Contest

Lace up those shoes and dust off those wheels, the 2024 Safe Routes to Schools Golden Sneaker Contest is coming to Mission Valley.

From March 4th to March 15th, students in participating classrooms will work together to use active and shared transportation options to get to school, such as:

        Walking

        Biking

Rolling in a wheelchair or mobility device

Skateboarding, using a scooter, other human-powered wheels

Using public transit such as AC Transit or BART

        Carpooling with another household

The Golden Sneaker Contest is an opportunity for our students to be physically active, build camaraderie, and reduce traffic congestion and pollution in our school community. Parents and guardians are encouraged to join their children for the fun, even though only student activities are counted in the contest.

Students will track their activity each day with their teacher, reporting if they did or did not participate in any active or shared transportation options. The classroom with the highest percentage of participation in these activities will win special incentives for students.

The Golden Sneaker Contest is an event organized by Alameda County’s Safe Routes to Schools Program, which is sponsored by the Alameda County Transportation Commission. For more information about the Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools Program, visit alamedacountysr2s.org

School Accountability Report Card (SARC)

Federal and state laws require school districts to make accountability reports available to the public online.  Accountability report information is based on data and information from the previous year.  Dates will run one year behind.

We are pleased to inform you that our district's School Accountability Report Cards (SARCs) are available in English, Spanish, and/or Chinese, as required.  You may view the SARCs on the Fremont Unified School District web site at https://fremontunified.org/resources/reports/.

For more information about SARC requirements, see the California Department of Education (CDE) SARC web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/ac/sa/.

California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)

student progress and ensure that all students leave high school ready for college and career. CAASPP

2024. Students in grades 5, 8, and an assigned high school grade will take the tests in science. If you

would like more information regarding your school’s schedule, please contact your school’s main office.

Following the spring testing, student score reports will be available electronically to parents/guardians in

late summer/early fall. Reports will include an overall score, a description of the student’s achievement

level for English language arts, mathematics, science if applicable, and other information.

If you would like more information, please visit the CAASPP Parent/Guardian Resources Web page.

Parents and guardians have the right to exempt their students from taking the CAASPP assessments. If

you have any questions or concerns regarding your student’s participation, please contact your school’s
