Hello Mission Valley Elementary Families,
We hope that you had a wonderful summer break and we are very excited to welcome you back for the 2024-25 school year! The Mission Valley Staff commits to elevating opportunities for all students through core academic instruction, meaningful interventions, enrichment, social-emotional learning, character education, and relationship building. We want all of our students to feel safe and be successful in school. As we count down to August 14th, the first day of school, I'd like to take this time to share key information and dates for upcoming events.
The front office opens on August 6, 2024. Please note that the hours are 7:30am-3:30pm. If you are in need of assistance you can call or visit in person. Alternatively you may send an email to any of our staff and our goal is to respond within 24 hours.
The first day of school is August 14, 2024. Be sure to plan accordingly and prepare for a buzzing campus, especially in the first few days when everyone is familiarizing themselves with school routines. As many families come to campus, we appreciate your cooperation in creating and maintaining a safe learning environment for all. Please abide by all traffic laws, drive carefully, and read the section about the valet and parking in this newsletter. Students who arrive before 8:05am (TK-K) and 8:10am (1st-5th) should wait in the designated hallway areas before supervision begins. We ask that families keep the walkways clear, respect the predesignated boundaries, and do not enter the main campus.
Let's have a great year! For any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Be sure to check out our school website or Parent Square for the most current information regarding events, schedules, and contact information. You can also read the scrolling messages on our marquee near the valet entrance. GO BEAVERS!

Fremont Unified is transitioning to Aeries as our student information system for the 2024-25 school year.
In July, parents and guardians received information to activate their Aeries Parent Portal, and use the Portal to complete the annual MAZE process, called “Parent Data Confirmation” in Aeries.
The window to complete the MAZE process for the 2024-25 school year is open until August 4, 2024.
MAZE is Fremont Unified School District’s annual data confirmation process in which parents/guardians:
provide required information for each enrolled student - such as emergency contacts,
acknowledge certain parent/guardian and student rights and responsibilities, and
access specific school forms/information.
Completing the MAZE/Parent Data Confirmation process ensures your student’s school has accurate information, and allows families to view student schedules/classroom assignments and their teachers when that information is released in August.
Please check your email for additional information about activating your Aeries Parent Portal and completing the MAZE/Parent Data Confirmation process.
Families at Mission Valley may enroll their child in a before and after school extended day program with the YMCA. Families with students who are designated in one or more specific categories (English learners, foster youth, homeless students, migrant students, and students who are free or reduced-price meal eligible) may be eligible to participate in the YMCA Program at Mission Valley at no cost through the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P). Please submit the ELO-P application to determine eligibility and visit the FUSD ELO-P website for details or contact Zeah Izaz at zizaz@ymcaestbay.org.
Attendance
All students are expected to attend school on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Students who are not in school the first day will not be guaranteed a seat in their assigned classes, and may be overloaded to other classes/schools upon return.
Parents/Guardians must notify office staff if a student will be absent for illness. Seats will not be held for students on extended vacations or other optional activities, whether or not the school is notified.
Click here to find our instructional calendar with holidays, report card dates, and other important dates.
School Commuication
School communication will be sent primarily through Parent Square, email, the digital marquee in front of school, office display case, and posted on the school website. Be sure to update your email in the online MAZE day forms to receive important communication from the school. Our web page can be accessed at https://fremontunified.org/missionvalley/ to find the school calendar, schedule, and important announcements. Newsletters are posted monthly. Please contact your child's teacher for weekly communication and Friday folders.
Mornings can be very hectic for families and all of us are working hard to get to school safely. Please remember to abide by all traffic laws when driving in school zones and the surrounding neighborhood (ie. put your cell phones down, keep the crosswalks clear, watch for pedestrians, avoid left turns, etc.). Check out this tip sheet from Alameda County for information about keeping our students and community safe.
Staff supervision for TK/Kindergarten begins at 8:05am and for grades 1-5 at 8:10am. After school supervision ends 10 minutes after the final bell for grades 4-5. Families are expected to drop off and pick up their students on time.
MORNING DROP OFF (UNLOADING)
Families utilizing the valet to drop off students must enter the campus from the cone lane on Denise Street. You can ONLY get into the queue from Lockwood Avenue/Chadbourne Drive. There are no left turns from McKay Street or Denise Street into or out of the school valet area. Please pull all the way forward into the valet and do not get out of your vehicle. Other passengers who are not Mission Valley students need to remain in your vehicle as well. The unloading/loading zone begins after the crosswalk/flagpole and ends after the carpool turnout. Students must exit vehicles on the sidewalk side ONLY. Please do not unload along the red curbs or in the middle of the street. Ten to twelve cars can enter the zone at a time. Pedestrians use designated crosswalks and should not cross the parking lot or grass island.
AFTERNOON PICK UP (LOADING)
Follow the same traffic procedures as the morning drop off. Vehicles should enter the valet no less than 5 minutes before your student’s final bell. For example, if you have a 5th grader, enter the valet no earlier than 2:40pm on regular days. If you arrive too early you will be asked to go back around the block and begin the procedure again. This will allow families to use the valet to pick up younger students that get out earlier. Students should wait for shuttle drivers in the “carpool” zone.
PARKING
The parking lots in the front and back of the school are for Mission Valley staff only. The side access road is for EMERGENCY VEHICLES, MISSION VALLEY STAFF, and FUSD DELIVERIES ONLY. If you park in the surrounding neighborhood please respect red curbs, private driveways, and crosswalks.
If you are interested in learning more about school safety, traffic control, or volunteering please contact Principal McClintock.
Here is the 2024-25 Voluntary Classroom Supply List. Items on this list are suggested by teachers and your contributions are greatly appreciated. Materials should be sent to school with students during the first week of school.
All students are eligible for one free breakfast meal and one lunch meal this school year. Breakfast is served in the multiuse room daily from 7:45-8:10am. Drop off your student in the front of school or valet. Students will follow the signs and walk down the main hallway to the multiuse room. After eating and cleaning up, students will head out to the blacktop and be in line by the start bell (grades TK-K 8:10am, 1-5 8:20am).
The lunch break for grades 3-5 is from 11:00-11:45am. Kindergarten is from 11:45am-12:25pm and grades 1-2 from 11:45am-12:30pm. After eating and cleaning up, students will go the the blacktop and play structures for recess.
If students forget lunches and water bottles you can leave them in the "lunch cart" in front of the office by 10:30am daily. The cart will be delivered to the multiuse room before lunchtime and it is the student's responsibility to retrieve their items. Students who forget to bring lunch may receive a free school lunch. Students should bring a pre-filled water bottle to school daily and may refill water bottles at our refilling stations as needed.
It's that time of the year to nominate (or self-nominate) parent/community committee members for our 2024-25 School Site Council.
The Commitment: Elected members would serve a 2-year term and attend SSC meetings 5 times per year (Dates TBD, 3:00-4:00pm in person on site). Parent/community members would work with school staff to edit and approve the Comprehensive School Safety Plan (CSSP) and the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) for the continued growth of student success in order to close the achievement gap and enhance and enrich the school experience for all students.
Process/Deadline: There are currently 3 open seats which need to be filled. Those who are interested or those who would like to nominate someone else shall submit this NOMINATION FORM on or before September 2, 2024. Ballots will then be distributed to the Mission Valley community via email.
Questions: Please contact Principal Jacyln McClintock at jmcclintock@fusdk12.net
The front office is open daily from 7:30am -3:30pm. Please contact specific staff members in advance for any appointment requests. Teachers are typically occupied while students are in the classroom and are not available to assist families during instructional time.
Be sure your student has all of their belongings (backpack, homework, supplies, personal items, etc.) upon arrival to school. Forgotten items may be left on the credenza in the lobby with a note indicating the student and teacher's names. Parents/guardians will need to email teachers regarding the forgotten items. Office staff will not call classrooms or deliver items during class as this is a disruption to instruction.
Visitors and volunteers need to sign in at the front office and obtain a badge before proceeding onto campus. We appreciate your support in maintaining a safe campus for all staff, students, and community members.
We have several exciting events and study trips coming up and are thrilled to welcome back parent volunteers for the 2024-2025 school year! All volunteers must:
Have pre-approval of teacher/principal
Submit an application through CiviCore
Volunteers that are transporting students must submit proof of insurance
CiviCore applications are good for 1 year and all FUSD children (even if at different schools)
Sign in and out at the office
Wear a visitor badge at all times
For more information, please see the Volunteer Page of the FUSD Website.
Please see the 2024-2025 FUSD School Year Calendar.
