Hello Mission Valley Elementary Families,
April showers bring May flowers! We're starting off the month with some cooler weather and rain showers but are looking foward to warmer weather and sunny skies. As we continue down the last stretch of the school year please take care of yourselves and your families. We'll all need plenty of energy to finsh up our last assesssments, projects, and participate in student activities. Be sure to send your students to school healthy and well rested. Students should have a snack, water bottle, and lunch daily or take advantage of the free meal program.
As the weather improves we notice that more of the public comes to our campus after hours. For the safety and wellbeing of our students, please ensure that you provide supervision at all times. Recently we have seen an increase in vandalism - backpack hooks have been removed/stolen from outside of classrooms and traffic barriers were removed or damaged. We have also had pet owners allow their dogs to roam without leashes, defecate in the tanbark of our playgrounds, and wash muddy paws in the drinking fountains. We hope that all our visitors take care of our campus and remember to show the 3Bs - Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be a Problem Solver.
This month we are look foward to Eid student activities and assemblies by the Lawrence Hall of Science and Mindful Life Project. The Jogathon is right around the corner and we've had a good start to our fundrasing campaign. Please help us meet our goal of $20,000, any amount is appreciated! We also have the Multicultural Fair and Spring Break is almost here! Lastly, CAASPP testing for 3rd-5th graders starts before the break and continues into May.
Let's have a great year! For any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Be sure to check out our school website or Parent Square for the most current information regarding events, schedules, and contact information. You can also read the scrolling messages on our marquee near the valet entrance. GO BEAVERS!

Please join me in congratulating our counselor Mrs. Maher Tamana for being selected as Mission Valley's 2024-25 Educator of the Year!
Mrs. Tamana was one of the top three finalists selected by the district panel. She and other FUSD Teacher-of-the-Year nominees were recognized for their contributions to FUSD and the children and families they serve at the March 26th Board of Education meeting.
Thank you Mrs. Maher for all that you do!
Students can earn 3Bs tickets for demonstating behavior expectations. Tickets are gathered across grade levels and are entered in our monthly drawing. Winners attend a special lunchtime activity with Principal McClintock and earn a one-of-a-kind Beaver water bottle sticker!
April raffle winners will be pulled at the end of the week and announced to students on Monday, April 7th. You will be able to see the winners posted on the digital marquee in front of the school.
Congratulations to Mr. Horning's 3rd grade class for winning this year's Golden Sneaker Contest! Students in room 13 had the highest percentage of students walking, rolling, biking, and carpooling to school. The class was awarded the Golden Sneaker trophy and each student received a pair of shiny gold shoelaces. Great job and keep using alternative forms of transportation!
This year's Jog-a-thon is planned for Tuesday, April 15th! All students will run around the track for 20 minutes (K-3rd graders) or 30 minutes (4th-5th graders) to raise money for important school programs and materials. Ready to donate? More information will be shared on Parent Square and Konstella soon!
Please remember that glass food or beverage containers are not permitted at school due to safety concerns.
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, or CAASPP, is the state academic testing program. CAASPP is a system intended to provide information that can be used to monitor student progress and ensure that all students leave high school ready for college and career. CAASPP
includes computer adaptive tests and performance tasks in English language arts, mathematics, and science.
Students in grades 3-8 and 11 will take tests in English and Math in spring of 2025. Students in grades 5, 8, and an assigned high school grade will take the tests in science. Students in grades 6-7, who are enrolled in the district’s Spanish Dual Immersion program, will also take the California Spanish Assessment. If you would like more information regarding your school’s schedule, please contact your school’s main office.
Following the spring testing, student score reports will be available electronically to parents/guardians in late summer/early fall. Reports will include an overall score, a description of the student’s achievement level for English language arts, mathematics, science if applicable, and other information.
If you would like more information, please visit the CAASPP Parent/Guardian Resources Web page. Parents and guardians have the right to exempt their students from taking the CAASPP assessments (EC 60615). If you have any questions or concerns regarding your student’s participation, please
contact your school’s principal.
The Fremont Unified School District Board of Education and our school faculty believe it is important for students to assume responsibility for their own health and well-being. They benefit from instruction that fosters the development of positive health behaviors and the prevention of negative unhealthy behaviors. FUSD’s Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality Education (CHPSE) curriculum focuses on information that is essential for students’ well-being. This course of study conforms strictly to the guidelines provided by the California State Education Code 51933 and the California Healthy Youth Act.
Please check with your student's teacher for the dates that these lessons will be taught.
State law allows you to remove your student from part or all of the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality lessons. Students opting out of lessons will be provided an alternate curriculum under the supervision of a credentialed teacher. If you do not want your student to participate in all or part of the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality education program, you must provide, in writing (email or on paper), a note to your student’s teacher. Add deadline here as applicable.
Please also note there are a few lessons where an opt out is not possible unless you opt out of the entire curriculum.
Links to the curriculum, opt-out information, and parent resources, can be found at: https://fremontunified.org/about/instructional-services/curriculum-instruction/curriculum-instruction-health-resources/
Please read the following advisory regarding head lice. We have seen cases in schools across Alameda County and would like to help prepare families in case your child contracts head lice. It is a good idea to check your child periodically for live lice and nits (eggs) and begin treatment as soon as possible.
Fremont Unified School District offers a variety of resources that families can access. No matter your need please check in with us an we will do our best to help! Families with students who are designated in one or more specific categories (English learners, foster youth, homeless students, migrant students, and students who are free or reduced-price meal eligible) may be eligible to participate in the YMCA Program at Mission Valley at no cost through the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P). Please submit the ELO-P application to determine eligibility and visit the FUSD ELO-P website for details.
All students are eligible for one free breakfast meal and one lunch meal this school year. Breakfast is served in the multiuse room daily from 7:45-8:10am. Drop off your student in the front of school or valet. Students will follow the signs and walk down the main hallway to the multiuse room. After eating and cleaning up, students will head out to the blacktop and be in line by the start bell (grades TK-K 8:10am, 1-5 8:20am).
The lunch break for grades 3-5 is from 11:00-11:45am. Kindergarten is from 11:45am-12:25pm and grades 1-2 from 11:45am-12:30pm. After eating and cleaning up, students will go to the blacktop and play structures for recess.
If students forget lunches and water bottles you can leave them in the "lunch cart" in front of the office by 10:30am daily. The cart will be delivered to the multiuse room before lunchtime and it is the student's responsibility to retrieve their items. Students who forget to bring lunch may receive a free school lunch. Students should bring a pre-filled water bottle to school daily and may refill water bottles at our refilling stations as needed.
