Hello Mission Valley Elementary Families,
I hope everyone is doing well! May is a busy month as we wrap up the school year and head out for summer! This will be the final newsletter of the school year but will continue to send messages with important information through Parent Square. Students are busy with state and district testing and are finishing up final projects in their classrooms. We are looking foward to Open House, May Day Dances, and a San Jose Taiko assembly. At the end of the month we will bid farewell to our 5th graders as they move on to middle school!
Let's have a great year! For any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Be sure to check out our school website or Parent Square for the most current information regarding events, schedules, and contact information. You can also read the scrolling messages on our marquee near the valet entrance. GO BEAVERS!

It takes a team to raise our children and we are so lucky to have fantastic teammates in our community! Our shared partnerships make Mission Valley a special place to educate and nurture our students and we appreciate you for your donating resources and time throughout this school year. Thank you for serving on School Site Council, the English Language Advisory Commitee, and the Safety Committee. Many of you chaperoned field trips, assisted in the classroom, and read aloud to students.
On behalf of our staff and students I would like to express an extra special thanks to the MVSA Board for their focus on students' needs. It takes a lot of energy, planning, and leadership to pull off events like Movie Night, the Jogathon, Multicultural Fest, and cultural activities and they did a phenomenal job! The joy on our students' faces during these events makes all the effort worth it! We look forward to next year and hope that more families and community members can get involved. Volunteering is enriching, shows our students that education is important, and we all benefit from your support.
Students can earn 3Bs tickets for demonstating behavior expectations. Tickets are gathered across grade levels and are entered in our monthly drawing. Winners attend a special lunchtime activity with Principal McClintock and earn a one-of-a-kind Beaver water bottle sticker!

In partnership with the Fremont Safe Routes to School Program we have enjoyed conducting bicycle, scooter and pedestrian safety education for our students. As you know a bicycle helmet is a big part of safety especially when you consider that 85% of head injuries can be avoided if the bicyclist or scooter rider is wearing helmet. We have a limited number of free bike helmets available for students who need them. Please contact Principal McClintock or the office if you need a helmet.
Students and their families are welcome to visit campus for Open House on Tuesday, May 13th from 6:00-7:00pm. This is a time to visit classrooms and see what students have accomplished over the year! Don't forget to stop by the MUR to check out this year's science projects and our art project display.
The end of year 5th grade celebration trip to the Aqua Adventure Water Park will be on Thursday, May 22nd. All students must turn in a signed permission slip along with the form for trips involving water activities. If your child has a school health plan, please be sure to complete that information as well. Teachers are organizing chaperones and will be communicating with families.
The 5th grade Promotion ceremony will be on Friday, May 30th from 9:00-10:00am in the MUR. Families are welcome to come and celebrate with our students and staff. Please plan to park off campus and walk in. The sign in sheet will be at the entrance to the the MUR where you will also pick up a visitors badge. This is a non-formal event. Students do not need to dress up; they can wear casual clothing. Students need to arrive at school at the normal time. If you would like to take your student out to brunch/lunch afterwards, please make sure to sign out with your child's teacher. Friday is an early release day (dismissal at 1:15pm).
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, or CAASPP, is the state academic testing program. CAASPP is a system intended to provide information that can be used to monitor student progress and ensure that all students leave high school ready for college and career. CAASPP
includes computer adaptive tests and performance tasks in English language arts, mathematics, and science.
Students in grades 3-8 and 11 will take tests in English and Math in spring of 2025. Students in grades 5, 8, and an assigned high school grade will take the tests in science. Students in grades 6-7, who are enrolled in the district’s Spanish Dual Immersion program, will also take the California Spanish Assessment. If you would like more information regarding your school’s schedule, please contact your school’s main office.
Following the spring testing, student score reports will be available electronically to parents/guardians in late summer/early fall. Reports will include an overall score, a description of the student’s achievement level for English language arts, mathematics, science if applicable, and other information.
If you would like more information, please visit the CAASPP Parent/Guardian Resources Web page. Parents and guardians have the right to exempt their students from taking the CAASPP assessments (EC 60615). If you have any questions or concerns regarding your student’s participation, please
contact your school’s principal.
The Fremont Unified School District Board of Education and our school faculty believe it is important for students to assume responsibility for their own health and well-being. They benefit from instruction that fosters the development of positive health behaviors and the prevention of negative unhealthy behaviors. FUSD’s Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality Education (CHPSE) curriculum focuses on information that is essential for students’ well-being. This course of study conforms strictly to the guidelines provided by the California State Education Code 51933 and the California Healthy Youth Act.
Please check with your student's teacher for the dates that these lessons will be taught.
State law allows you to remove your student from part or all of the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality lessons. Students opting out of lessons will be provided an alternate curriculum under the supervision of a credentialed teacher. If you do not want your student to participate in all or part of the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality education program, you must provide, in writing (email or on paper), a note to your student’s teacher. Add deadline here as applicable.
Please also note there are a few lessons where an opt out is not possible unless you opt out of the entire curriculum.
Links to the curriculum, opt-out information, and parent resources, can be found at: https://fremontunified.org/about/instructional-services/curriculum-instruction/curriculum-instruction-health-resources/

All students are eligible for one free breakfast meal and one lunch meal this school year. Breakfast is served in the multiuse room daily from 7:45-8:10am. Drop off your student in the front of school or valet. Students will follow the signs and walk down the main hallway to the multiuse room. After eating and cleaning up, students will head out to the blacktop and be in line by the start bell (grades TK-K 8:10am, 1-5 8:20am).
The lunch break for grades 3-5 is from 11:00-11:45am. Kindergarten is from 11:45am-12:25pm and grades 1-2 from 11:45am-12:30pm. After eating and cleaning up, students will go to the blacktop and play structures for recess.

The cart will be delivered to the multiuse room before lunchtime and it is the student's responsibility to retrieve their items. Students who forget to bring lunch may receive a free school lunch. Students should bring a pre-filled water bottle to school daily and may refill water bottles at our refilling stations as needed.
