Art trip to Florence
The art students from Mattliden got to visit Florence, Italy during flex week. Florence is a city that is known for its rich history and art. Many of the students had dreamt of visiting the beautiful city to witness the masterpieces of some of the greatest artists in history. Their trip to Florence was nothing short of magical.
They started their trip by landing in Pisa, then traveling by train to Florence. Each student got a sketchbook that was used for sketching. Their first task was to walk around the city to choose a famous art piece and sketch it. The next day they got to walk with the renowned artist Heather to San Miniato. The visit followed by some more sketching. They also got the opportunity to press their sketches onto different papers in different colors. It’s an old method dating back to the 1400th century. On friday the students traveled back to Pisa. The trip ended on a high note at the leaning tower of Pisa and a group dinner.
“ I heard last night a little child go singing, ‘Neath casa Guidi windows, by the church,
“O bella libertà, O bella ! Stringing The same words still on notes he went in search So high for, you concluded the upspringing Of such animble bird to sky from perch Must leave the whole bush tremble in green; And that the heart of Italy must beat,”
Casa Guidi Windows, by Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1851)
The students were kind enough to share a favorite memory of theirs from the trip. You can read them down below.
Secret rose garden
We walked uphill for what felt like an eternity, with sore legs and feeling extremely thirsty, but made it up to Piazzale Michelangelo right in time to see the sun set over Florence. The views were incredible and worth the trouble. - Natasha Qvickman
Ett av mina favorit minnen från Florence var att gå på kvällen längs med bron pch titta på den fina staden och lyssna på gatuartiserna.
Seeing the statue of Michael Angelo was very surreal. It was way larger than I imgained and I felt so small looking at it. It was amazing to be able to sketch it in person.
Florence was a beautiful place with warm weather and warm people! All the narrow streets around the city had small hidden treasures, like this adorable little shop we saw on out way to the hostel. The owner saw us looking inside after closing time and after we complimented his beautiful display, he offered to take a picture with the 3 of us, (Bianca, Isabel & Miruna from 21I). He was a happy spirit and im glad of how many other people alike we got to meet throughout our Italy trip, just a country filled with life!
I loved the whole trip so choosing a favourite part is difficult, I really loved our workshop on Tuesday, when we went to the secret rose garden. We got the assignment of walking around and find something to sketch. Even tho the roses were not blooming I managed to find a rose that was beautifully starting to bloom. I loved sitting there with the sun shining and just taking a moment to appreciate the way you can transfer something you see onto a paper.
The last night in Pisa <3
There were so many cute art and jewellery stores :)
The group walked uphill to look over the city.
